BLACKBURN Hawks are braced for a ‘battle of the Brittles’ this weekend.

Tomorrow’s trip to Sheffield Spartans promises to be a family affair as Hawks duo Daniel and Adam set to go head to head with their brother Stuart.

Player-coach Jared Owen admitted the banter had been flying between the siblings, but no squad secrets would be traded.

Owen insists he knows what to expect from the South Yorkshire club anyway, though, with revenge high on the agenda for the home team.

Hawks dominated their Moralee Conference clash with Sheffield last month, with a 6-0 success included in their four-game winning start to the 2013/14 campaign.

“Spartans have had a couple of good results since we played them so we know we’ve got to play at the top of our game,” said Owen.

“I think we caught them at the right time last time.

“It will be a little bit different tomorrow with it being in their rink, and their confidence will be up after beating Sutton and Whitley, who are one of the favourites.

“We know what we are going to get with Sheffield.

“Their players have grown up together and they play a set way, but we’ve got to stick to our own game.

“If we get caught trying to play their game they will beat us.”

They beat Hawks to Stuart’s signature too, with Owen admitting he would have liked a trio of Brittle brothers on board.

“Stuart’s the older one,” he said.

“He dropped down from the EPL and took a break for a while.

“I’d have liked him to sign for us too but he lives in Sheffield.

“He scored two goals in his first game so he’s one to watch.

“I’ve been trying to ask his brothers which one is going to fight him!

“It’s a shame their youngest brother, Luke, is on a year placement in Luton and playing for Chelmsford otherwise we might have had four in one game.

“It’s nice for their grandad as he has to choose which game to go to but this one satisfies them all.”

Hawks follow up tomorrow’s trip with a long journey to face Billingham Stars (face-off 6.30pm) in the return leg of their cup clash, after winning the first 2-1.

Owen, who will be without David Meikle and Ivo Dimitrijevs this weekend and is trying to free up Scott Robson from Hull Stingrays, is hoping to use the trip for some team bonding.

“For us Telford lads it’s the only coach trip we go on,” said the coach, who expects the Stars to be smarting.

“They will come out with a point to prove.

“They had a good result last week, beating Solway quite comfortably, so they will want to prove they are better than us.

“But we want to win the cup as much as anything so we need to go in with the right attitude and impose ourselves.

“We’ll still be going there with as full a squad as we’ve had for a while.”
