Crown Paints enjoy 'debut' win in Blackburn Sunday League
BLACKBURN Sunday League teams kicked off their quest for county glory as the Lancashire FA Sunday Trophy got under way.
A total of 13 teams entered the competition including Mill Hill who won two years ago and Crown Paints who were making their Sunday Trophy debut.
Crown were involved in one of the ties of day against Bolton side Queen Anne.
In what was a real end-to-end encounter with a typical cup tie atmosphere, the match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes but the Darwen team held their nerve to win the shoot out 4-2.
Mill Hill, winners in 2011, enjoyed an emphatic win on their travels, running out 9-0 winners at Blackpool and came away with a resounding 9-0 victory against AFC Wilo.
Clifton travelled to Radcliffe Town and won 4-1 while Longshaw made the Journey to Hesketh Bank and lost 3-1.
Oswaldtwistle St Mary’s were the days top scorers as they beat Blue Room from Blackpool 10-1, AMT Lawyers also played a Blackpool side Devonshire Arms the game finished 2-2 after 90 minutes but the lawyers went through 5-4 on penalties.
Havelock entertained last season’s winners Cleveley’s working men’s club (Reform Health) and were on the wrong end of a 6-0 drubbing.
But the shock of the day was New Gardener’s who went down 3-2 to Northern Care Colt’s – the Darwen side just never got their game going against a hard working Blackpool team. On the league scene, Royal Oak made it five in a row with a 4-2 win over Rishton Roebuck, while Whinney Hill got back to winning ways with a 4-0 win away to Black Bull; Station Helmshore went down 4-1 at home to Great Harwood Rovers.
JQ Plumbing continued their progress with a very good 2-1 win against Stanhill WMC, while Darwen Victoria won the all- Darwen encounter against Anchor, winning 5-2.
In Division Three, Whinney Hill Colts won the top of the table clash against a previously unbeaten Helmshore Harriers 2-1, while Brown Cow came out top against local rivals Brown Cow Olympic 4-1, there were also wins for Golden Cup and King Edward.
