FULL-TIME: Blackburn Rovers 0 Huddersfield Town 0
A LACK of a cutting edge cost Rovers the chance of making an immediate return to winning ways.
Gary Bowyer’s side dominated possession but ultimately failed to trouble Alex Smithies in the Huddersfield goal.
Smithies should have been given no chance in the 39th minute by Jordan Rhodes.
But the striker, unmarked just inside the box, headed Tom Cairney’s inswinging cross over the bar.
Earlier in the first half Cairney fired wide after being invited to shoot by the backtracking Terriers defence before Tommy Spurr skewed a right-footed shot over after Scott Dann nodded down a deep Cairney corner.
But for all the home side’s control they would have trailed at the break had Jake Kean not made a superb one-handed save to keep out Adam Hammill’s clever header.
Neither goalkeeper were truly tested in a second half bereft of clear-cut chances.
Chris Taylor – the only change to the side that started the midweek defeat to Leicester City – came closest for Rovers when he drove infield and clipped a 20-yard effort just past the angle of bar and post.
Bowyer threw on Leon Best, Alan Judge and Lee Williamson in a bid to find a winner.
But Huddersfield – who were not as open after the restart after a tactical switch – comfortably held out to end their five-match losing run at Ewood Park.
For Rovers it was their first clean sheet of the season.
