East Lancashire snooker league battle hots up
5:32pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in Sport
THE battle for honours in the Three Towns Snooker League is hotting up with just a few games remaining.
Poplar Social Club lead Division One by just two points ahead of nearest rivals Leisure Hour A with just two games of the season remaining.
Both teams have an identical record having won 14 and lost six of their 20 league matches and both still have a chance of taking the honours.
However, Leisure Hour will be looking for two big wins in the last games while at the same time hoping that Poplar slip up.
Poplar, whose star potter Farakh Ajaib currentlyholds the highest break of 104, hold that slender advantage and go in to the business end of the season on the back of a big 6-1 win against Furthergate B which doubles their advantage over Leisure Hour have lead by just a point last week.
The second-placed side slip a further point behind after they failed to match or better Poplar’s result as they beat Audley WMC 5-2.
It is equally as tight in Division Two with just three points separating leaders Clayton Con and second placed Longshaw B who have a game in hand.
Clayton, with two games left, will be looking for maximum points – just as they did in the lastest round of games after thumping Sydney Street C 7-0.
That extended their lead over Longshaw B by a point eventhough they had an impressive 6-1 success against Platt Social, their 16th win of the season.
