Rugby Union teams ready to kick off cup campaigns in East Lancashire

THE league may still be a few weeks off for East Lancashire teams but they return to competitive action at the weekend when they kick off their cup campaigns.
Blackburn face something of an unknown quantity when they play host to South Lancs and Cheshire Division One side West Park.
Blackburn, coached by Dino Radice, have been busy in the closed season, hosting its own touch rugby sessions while they put the finishing touches to their pre-season build-up with friendly fixtures against Tyldesley and Thorton Cleveleys.
North Lancs One side Burnley have a tough proposition when they take on National League Three North side Stockport.
Burnley warmed up for the clash with an inter club match at Holden Road at the weekend.
Rossendale meanwhile have opted to not enter the Lancashire Cup this season as they concentrate on the National League Three North campaign.
They conclude their pre-season build up when they entertain Macclesfield at the Marl Pits on Saturday.
Clitheroe have an all North Lancs Two clash when they play host to Old Bedians in the opening round of the Lancashire Plate competition.
Roger Holmes is again head coach at the Littlemoor club while Nathan Peel is First XV captain for the second season.
Andrew Thornber is Second XV captain.
Meanwhile, Chorley dropped out of North Lancs League Two after finishing bottom of the table last season.
They will now compete in the Raging Bull County Courier Services Division Two North.
They begin their campaign at Trafford MV on Saturday, September 7.
