East Lancashire pupils win medals in national gymnastics event

FOUR East Lancashire pupils helped their school to two national gymnastics medal in a hugely successful year.
Aaron Pennington, Frazer Drever, George Westwood and Danny Leeming were a part of the Walton-le-Dale High School under 14s team that won a bronze medal at the National Floor and Vault competition.
It again underlined Walton-le-Dale’s reputation of producing some of the best young gymnasts in the North West.
The school, which includes many pupils from the Blackburn and Darwen area, ended the school year with five North West titles and two national bronze medals.
Aaron was the pick of the quartet on the floor, scoring the second highest total of the competition before team-mate Dominic Wilson scored the third highest of the day in the vault as Walton-le-Dale secured the bronze medal.
Danny, George, Aaron and Dominic were also members of the team that won a bronze medal at the British Schools Gymnastics Association Team Trio National finals which attracted schools from across England, Scotland and Wales plus a guest team from Belgium.
The team competed in the floor, vault and in a trio group with Dominic scoring the highest vault score, Aaron the second highest in the floor and Aaron gained the highest individual score in the floor and vault combined.
It was the second successive year the school had picked up a national bronze medal having finished third the previous year.
The school’s mixed under 16s team also qualified for the national finals.
And the team, that included Blackburn and Darwen youngsters Nicole Reeder, Casey Royle and Abdullah Juma, along with Harrison Stanley finished in sixth place in the nationals.
The boys and mixed teams qualified for the national finals as North West champions.
In the North West Floor and Vault competition, the school won titles at U14s boys, U14s mixed and U19s mixed.
All three qualified for the national finals where the girls team, including local gymnasts Emma Procter, Amy Dullenty and Seth Vallentin, finished in a creditable ninth place.
The U19s mixed team including Abdullah Juma, Hannah Knowles and Casey Royle finished in eighth place overall.
