Bowyer praises 'ruthless' Blackburn Rovers
6:09pm Saturday 24th August 2013 in Sport
GARY Bowyer praised his ‘ruthless’ Blackburn Rovers side after they claimed a convincing 5-2 win at home to Barnsley.
Rovers came from a goal down to secure victory after making Barnsley pay heavily for the first-half dismissal of defender Jean-Yves Mvoto.
Mvoto was sent off for a professional foul minutes after Chris Dagnall had put the visitors in front.
Tom Cairney scored from the resultant free kick and Rovers scored three more goals before half time, two from Jordan Rhodes and one from Josh King.
Todd Kane added a fifth before Tomasz Cywka pulled a goal back.
“Today we were ruthless in front of goal and took our opportunities well,” Bowyer said.
“I was more delighted with the equalising goal going in than the sending off because you just don’t know how the game goes against 10 men.
“I thought we were ruthless and professional in terms of how we went about it.”
Morten Gamst Pedersen came on to the pitch to acknowledge the crowd at full time after making a surprise return to Ewood, having had a medical with Turkish side Karabukspor yesterday.
Pedersen has jetted back to England to finalise the terms of his Rovers exit, with a move expected to be completed in the next few days.
“He’s still a Blackburn Rovers player,” Bowyer confirmed.
