Bowyer cautious over DJ Campbell's Blackburn Rovers comeback date

GARY Bowyer is remaining cautious over a comeback date for DJ Campbell – with the striker targeting a return in time for Blackburn Rovers’ East Lancashire derby with Burnley.
Campbell was ruled out for eight weeks after picking up an ankle ligament injury at Preston on July 23.
But the forward is ahead of schedule in his recovery and could hand Rovers a boost up front.
Campbell wants a return to action as soon as possible and is hopeful of being fit for Rovers’ trip to Turf Moor on September 14.
He has not yet been completely ruled out of the home game against Bolton on August 31, although Bowyer will take a cautious approach with the 31-year-old.
“I think it’s unfair to set a target for DJ,” said the Rovers boss.
“We’ve just got to keep hoping he recovers as quickly as he’s doing at the moment.
“If it’s before the Burnley game, that will be the Bolton game, then great. If not then as soon as he’s ready we’ll be picking him.”
Defender Matt Kilgallon has missed Rovers’ first four games of the season with a groin problem but is nearing a return, potentially in time for Saturday’s home game against Barnsley.
Midfielder Lee Williamson is also closing in on his first appearance of the campaign, after missing pre-season with a back injury.
But Dickson Etuhu and Paul Robinson are further away from returns, having been scheduled for comebacks at the end of September.
“Lee Williamson and Matt Kilgallon won’t be too far away,” Bowyer said.
“Dickson is still a way off but we’ll keep working hard and keep trying to get the bodies on the pitch.”
