Great weekend for Clitheroe cricketer Spencer
5:59pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in Sport
It has certainly been a special weekend for Clitheroe Cobras U13 off spinner Angus Spencer.
He helped his U14 team to collect another piece of silverware for the Chatburn Road trophy cabinet with an emphatic victory over Read then a couple of days later went on to mark his senior cricket debut with a five wicket haul against Baxenden in a Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale League Division Three fixture.
Cobras U14 opened steadily with Dewhurst and Lang building a solid platform and they raced to 62 off the first 10 overs.
Lang departed for 17 and was soon followed by his partner back in the tent for 42.
This brought in Dominic Stuart who continued the onslaught as the Cobras raced to an impressive 149 off their 20 overs.
Read were never in the hunt and and all hopes were dashed when an opening burst of 3-8 from Jimbob Scorah was backed up by 3-1 from the unplayable offspin of Angus Spencer, all of which resulted in Read capitulating to 21 all out.
Despite Spencer’s efforts with the ball for the Clitheroe fourth team, they were well beaten at Baxenden.
Spencer claimed 5-58 from nine overs as Baxenden were bowled out for 230 with Richard Staines making an impressive 76 for the home side.
But Baxenden were on top with the ball as Clitheroe were bowled out for 71 with Fred Nixon claiming four wickets.
