LANCASHIRE Under 13s beat Yorkshire to lift the Festival Cup as they proved to be too strong for the Tykes at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club.
The Red Rose youngsters, captained by Clitheroe’s Charlie Dewhurst batted first after winning the toss and Joseph Halstead and George Lavelle got them off to a good start before Halstead was run out for 12.
Rehan Udwadia made just three, the very impressive Lavelle finally went for 26 and Brad Fielding was run out for a duck as they slipped to 43-4.
And when Dewhurst was bowled for 14, it appeared that Lancashire’s normally fluid batting was failing just when they needed it to fire.
But Kieran Wilkinson made a classy 55 not out and that helped the Red Rose to post a respectable 135-8 from their 45 overs.
Yorkshire slumped to 5-2 as their reply began disastrously but Rishi Bhuskute (33) and Luke Kilby (22) steadied the ship.
But East Lancashire youngster Lewis Pearson claimed the prized scalp of Bhuskute when he pinned him leg before wicket and Yorkshire were wobbling towards defeat.
Muhammad Ahmad then went through the Tyke tail as Lancashire proved their superiority and eventually bowled their cross-Pennine rivals out for just 104 in the 40th over as Lancashire claimed the silverware.
Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers with 4-14 from six overs, while Lewis Dove and Udwadia both claimed two wickets to cap an excellent bowling display.
