FULL-TIME: Sheffield Wednesday 1, Burnley 2
5:02pm Saturday 10th August 2013 in Sport
FIRST-HALF goals from Danny Ings and Sam Vokes were enough to earn Burnley their first league win of the season.
Sheffield Wednesday staged a fightback, and pulled a goal back through David Prutton's 71st minute header.
But Burnley survived further pressure from the Owls, weathering six minutes of stoppage time, to earn their second win at Hillsborough this calendar year.
Ings paved the way for success with his third goal in as many games, after scoring in an opening day draw with Bolton Wanderers last weekend, and the midweek cup win at York.
The 21-year-old was on hand to head in Ross Wallace's cross from close range just after the half-hour.
Vokes then climbed at the far left post to head Kieran Trippier's superb delivery across Chris Kirkland for his first of the season.
Wednesday came on strong in the second half and Tom Heaton pulled off a stunning double save to deny the home side.
But there was little he could do to keep out David Prutton's powerful header from Liam Palmer's right wing cross.
The Owls threw everything at Burnley in search of an equaliser, but Sean Dyche's defence held firm.
