HALF-TIME: Sheffield Wednesday 0, Burnley 2
4:17pm Saturday 10th August 2013 in Sport
DANNY Ings continued his 2013/14 scoring streak and Sam Vokes grabbed his first of the season to give Burnley a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Clarets had to weather a spell of Sheffield Wednesday pressure, with Tom Heaton called into action to save from Jacques Maghoma, while Jeremy Helan went close, David Prutton fired into the side netting and Danny Lafferty almost bundled into his own net from Maghoma's square pass.
But Burnley were instantly lifted by their opener, with Ross Wallace crossing from the right for Ings to head in from close range just after the half-hour.
It was Ings' third goal in as many games in the new season, and his eighth in seven straight outings, including pre-season.
Junior Stanislas hobbled off after the celebrations, replaced by Scott Arfield, but Burnley motored into a 2-0 lead.
Vokes hung in the air to meet Kieran Trippier's excellent cross at the far left post, and cushioned a header across Chris Kirkland.
