BLACKBURN Rovers star Martin Olsson is closing in on a move to Norwich City after undergoing a medical with the Carrow Road club.

Rovers and Norwich have agreed an undisclosed fee for the Swede, believed to be in the region of £2.5m, and the 25-year-old could complete his move today.

The deal is expected to allow Rovers to pursue their interest in Jay Spearing, left, after a £1.75m package was agreed in principle with Liverpool – although the midfielder is understood to prefer a Premier League move.

Rovers needed to move on a senior player to fund any potential deal for Spearing, and Gael Givet’s future is also looking increasingly uncertain.

The Frenchman did not travel with the squad to their pre-season training camp in Portugal and still wants to leave after publicly stating his desire to quit Ewood Park midway through last season.

But Givet has not submitted a formal transfer request and it now remains to be seen if an exit will be negotiated or if another club will make a move for a 31-year-old who still has a year left on his deal.

Olsson has been attracting interest from Norwich for some weeks, although Gary Bowyer previously suggested that it would take a big offer to persuade Rovers to sell.

The left footer stayed behind when Rovers travelled to Portugal on Monday and was in East Anglia yesterday for a medical.

Rovers have informally agreed a price for Spearing but were told to raise the necessary funds before being given permission to speak to the 24-year-old and try to persuade him to move to Ewood Park.

Spearing is said to still be awaiting news on Rovers’ interest and is scheduled to return for pre-season with Liverpool next week following a broken toe at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, David Jones is believed to be interesting Burnley while Michael Higdon, linked with Rovers at the weekend, has joined Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.
