The BEST Centre Table Tennis Team were launched on Monday night as they held their 1st friendly.

The friendly took place ahead of their entry into the East Lancashire Table Tennis League in September facing other teams across the county.

Facing tough opposition from the DOALS Community Centre (Bacup) the team gained valuable experience against their Division 3 experienced opponents. Despite going down 21-15 the Team showed great character with Harry 'Arry' Charalambous the stand out performer for the BEST Centre on the night loosing only one of his four best of five set games.

Rookie Nic ‘The Greek’ Chriopolous was the surprise of the night winning two of his four games including a starring role is the doubles match. Captain Jim ‘Gump’ Balmforth was his usual competitive self but came away with three very close defeats on the night. Jim explained "We all started playing socially last year when the centre opened and it has just grown from there really. More and more players have started coming down and by entering a team in the East Lancashire League it gives some players the opportunity to progress and represent a Team."

The centre run the Table Tennis Sessions on a Monday night and welcome players of any ability to come down and play. For more information please contact the centre on 01282 455068 or email info@thebestcentre.com
