Blackburn Rovers confirm released list

First published in Sport

BLACKBURN Rovers have confirmed that eight players have been allowed to leave the club at the end of their contracts.

Micah Evans, Osayamen Osawe, Chris Dilo, Jamie Maclaren, Reece Hands, Peter Wylie, Ryan Humphreys and Danny Laverty all depart.

But the club have confirmed that young players John O’Sullivan, Raheem Hanley, Hugo Fernandez, Matty Urwin, Will Beesley, Curtis Haley, Kellen Daly and Darragh Lenihan have all been offered new deals. All were due to be out of contract this summer.

Urwin, who was Rovers’ substitute goalkeeper for their final game of the season, confirmed on Twitter on Friday that he had put pen to paper on a new contract.

They have contracts, so we wait for someone to take over the contract - or keep paying them until the contract runs out..

Venky's must try to pay off the deadwood. Short term very expensive but long term will be benefical. This will free up wages to secure our young promising players with a few additional signings.
Put your hand in your pocket Venky's and pay these guys off! It will be better in the long run, after all this is what you are looking to isn't it, the long term!
Show the fans you are serious about Rovers!! and that you will no longer listen to money men!

so they get rid of potential...... not sure how much that is going to save but it seems they decimating the youth setup that JW put in place to secure our future.
TIme will tell.
As above when are they going to get rid of the dross....
GB you need to make a statement to get the fans right behind you....
I appreciate we don't know the full picture - not likely too with this mob either but you must realise if you want to galvanise support you need to address the problems that are repeatedly voiced on these forums as they are a poll of the majority of fans.

Realistically, if a lad has come through our youth system and has not demonstrated some potential by the age of 18 or 19, then you have to let the lad go for two reasons, so that he can find a place in a lower division side, and open up a slot in our youth team for another, younger player.
It has always been this way. We let several lads go every year. Very few make the first team.

A poll of the majority of fans?
Now that is stretch of the imagination
Maybe 50 regular posters on here and about half of those are the same person with 25 or more log ons
Meanwhile on Ewood we have
13 to 16 k for home games. I would say the active attending fans have the majority
This forum with only a handful of exceptions, has been hijacked by an agenda driven by a bizarre twisted hatred of all things Rovers
Posts like yours that twist a straight forward bit of football business into a conspiracy theory without any grounds at all
What do you get from it?
Very sad really

As stated, until we determine to jettison the 'baggage' from the squad this will continue to rankle a great many of the support. It is all well and good offering cheap ST's, but many will still not entertain it when there are several senior professionals on 25 -35k (+?) a week !

The general trend of this 'money' for nothing is indemic in the modern game i.e. not just at BRFC (my personal stand on this is focussed toward to overall gross imbalance across the board.) But it is BRFC that we all personally care over and it is clearly evident there are number in our squad on the 'gravy train' and contributing v'v little (if anything).
For GB to put his foot down and 'force' the owners to step up to reality and do the necessary would do wonders for supporter belief.

to be fair, the club has been really rather generous over the new season tickets. i'd prefer to see the freed up £1m (?) go to something more useful!

i can't see how this is a decimation of the youth setup. youth players come and go from all clubs, and in the article it highlights those that have been signed up to new contracts. if we kept every single youth player we signed up every year, brockall would be jam-packed by now.
the club has stated that there will be a review of some 60-odd contracts this summer, so maybe the process of getting rid of some of the players you'd like to see go is underway. that can't happen overnight, so maybe a little patience.
GB doesn't need to say much more. he has said quite a bit already, and i for one am happy with him going about the things he has mentioned in his own way. let's leave him to it without the burden of having to report to every fan on a daily basis.
come on, we're starting to see some sensible things happening for a change (and no, it's not enough yet, but it's a start!). Let's just let the club get on with it now without seeing calamity at every single thing that does not meet our own individual criteria for success...

Shebby the Snake shooed them in, let Shebby ship em out. I don't suspect there will be much of a queue to sign them on so it will be a series of negotiations to buy out their contracts and test their confidence in finding new clubs.
