IT is likely to be a busy summer for Blackburn Rovers for a whole host of reasons, with changes expected not only in the boardroom but also in their sizeable squad.

An incredible total of 61 players will either stay or go this summer, depending on the circumstances of each individual.

Rovers have few players out of contract but with several loans due to expire and uncertainty over the future of various other members of the squad, a number of decisions will have to be made.

Who will make those decisions has not yet been confirmed with Gary Bowyer’s spell as boss due to end after this afternoon’s final game of the season at Birmingham.

Bowyer has said previously that decisions over contracts are not part of his remit at the moment, although that could change if he takes charge on a permanent basis.

Michael Appleton said during his 67 days as manager that one of his priorities at the club was to reduce the wage bill, and it would be no surprise if that is still on the agenda for Rovers.

The Ewood Park outfit have a sizeable wage bill and face a significant reduction in parachute payments in 12 months’ time should they not gain promotion, and Rovers will also have to face the incoming Financial Fair Play rules, which kick in with potential sanctions in the Championship from January 2015.

We now assess what the future may hold for the Rovers squad.

Loanees (8)

Keeper Greg Sandomierski sees his season-long loan from Genk come to an end after today’s game but Rovers have first option to sign him on a permanent basis.

His parent club are still waiting for an indication about whether Rovers wish to do so.

Colin Kazim-Richards’ season-long loan from Galatasaray also expires and his future is still uncertain.

Rovers were said to have agreed a fee for a permanent move in January, amid reported interest from Bursaspor, but no deal was completed.

Cameron Stewart looks likely to return to Hull at the end of his loan and DJ Campbell is already back with QPR for treatment on a broken metatarsal.

David Bentley and Karim Rekik are expected to go back to Tottenham and Manchester City respectively.

David Jones and Todd Kane have been regular members of the starting line-up since moving to Rovers on loan, and there could be a chance of the duo staying.

Jones first needs to resolve his future at Wigan, where his contract expires this summer.

Kane has signed a new long-term deal at Chelsea but a season-long loan next term could be a possibility.

Currently out on loan (6)

Ruben Rochina is on loan at Real Zaragoza until the end of the season and scored for the Spanish side last weekend.

He has claimed that Zaragoza have an option to sign him permanently, although they are currently in danger of relegation from La Liga and Rochina has not been a regular so it is not yet clear if they will pursue that. The 22-year-old still has two years left on his Rovers deal.

Mauro Formica has a year left and is on loan at Italian side Palermo, but he has not featured since mid-March.

Paulo Jorge is on loan at Bulgarian club Beroe, with Edinho Junior in India with Shillong Lajong and Diogo Rosado back in Portugal with Benfica’s B team.

Bruno Ribeiro’s loan at Brazilian side Clube Atletico Linense also ends this summer, with his Rovers contract having another year to run.

Out of contract (17)

David Dunn is the only established senior player without a confirmed contract for next season.

Both Dunn and Gary Bowyer hope a new deal can be sorted out, and that now seems likely to happen.

Also currently due to be out of contract this summer, unless new deals are negotiated, are a host of young players.

They are: John O’Sullivan, Raheem Hanley, Hugo Fernandez, Micah Evans, Osayamen Osawe, Christopher Dilo, Matty Urwin, Jamie Maclaren, Will Beesley, Reece Hands, Curtis Haley, Peter Wylie, Kellen Daly, Ryan Humphreys, Danny Laverty and Darragh Lenihan.

Under contract (30)

Including the six currently out on loan, Rovers have a total of 36 players under contract for next season already.

The likes of Jordan Rhodes and Scott Dann have already been linked with interest from elsewhere, although the ball is very much in Rovers’ court about whether they would be willing to even consider parting with such key members of their team.

Some of those contracted have featured rarely in recent weeks, with the likes of Danny Murphy and Nuno Gomes still having a year left on their deals.

Much could come down to what the players want to do themselves in that situation, with Murphy saying he is happy to stay providing the club make the right choice on the next manager. Bowyer has his backing.

Gael Givet still has a year left on his contract, while Paul Robinson has two years to run and Dickson Etuhu has three years remaining.

Others with a year left include senior players and first-team regulars Morten Gamst Pedersen, Bradley Orr, Markus Olsson, Lee Williamson and Josh Morris.

Dann, Martin Olsson, Grant Hanley, Josh King, David Goodwillie, Nuno Henrique, Fabio Nunes, Anton Forrester and Jordan Slew signed deals until 2015.

Jake Kean, Jason Lowe and Leon Best have contracts until 2016, while Rhodes and Adam Henley have a further year.

Further players still under contract at the club include Seb Usai, Ryan Edwards, Tim Payne, Jack O’Connell, Anthony O’Connor and Robbie Cotton.
