SWINDON jockey Wayne Hutchinson believes Godsmejudge has all the attributes required to triumph in the Scottish National this afternoon.

Hutchinson is aboard Alan King’s 9/1 third favourite this afternoon at Ayr, on what his is first appearance in the prestigious race.

The Swindon man thinks his charge has a good chance this afternoon, and believes if he can make it to the head of the field he has a good chance of staying the distance.

“He is in his novice season and has been very progressive as he has run well all year,” he said.

“The horse is a good stayer and ran well in the four-mile race at Cheltenham, and finished second at Warwick earlier in the season in what was a competitive three-and-a-half mile handicap.

“Ayr will suit him because it’s a galloping flat track, and with his style of running he likes to be up front and it is one of the races where you have to be up there in the race.

“I think he has all the attributes to run a very big race, and he is progressive and is still young.

“He will be handy for sure, but he needs a bit of luck and a good run out the gate, and if he gets that you never know.”

While the Scottish National does not have the prestige of the Grand National held at Aintree, Hutchinson insisted it is still a race every jockey would love to win.

“The race has plenty of history behind it and it’s a very good pot to win, and at the end of the day it’s the Scottish National,” he said.
