GARY Bowyer is happy to leave talk about the futures of Gael Givet and Todd Kane until the summer – with Rovers’ focus simply on survival.

Givet and Kane are expected to line up in defence for Rovers once more at Watford tomorrow, after both impressed in the crucial 1-0 win at home to Huddersfield on Tuesday.

Givet was making his first appearance in three months and the 31-year-old, who still has a year left on his Rovers deal, said in the French press at the start of March that he was desperate to leave the club.

The former Monaco man had been keen to go on loan to Evian in his home country in January but claimed he had been told he would have to cancel the final year of his contract for that deal to happen.

But Bowyer, who is in temporary charge of Rovers until the end of the season, says Givet’s long-term future is something for the defender to assess in the summer.

The boss hopes until then he can simply replicate the sort of performance he produced on Tuesday, when he celebrated victory by leaping on the back of his team-mates.

Asked whether he hoped Givet would now abandon the desire to leave, Bowyer said: “I think that’s something for Gael to look at in the summer.

“I was unaware he’d said that (about wanting to leave). When I spoke to him a couple of months ago he was fine, he was always polite in the mornings when we saw each other and that was all it needed really.

“I think he’s just concentrating on enjoying his football, which he showed on Tuesday.

“You don’t jump on your team-mate’s back if you’re not happy.

“He was delighted with the win, he was delighted with his contribution and he’s got to produce the same again on Saturday.”

Kane was another to make a key contribution to a clean sheet against Huddersfield and the right back has now extended his loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.

Bowyer was full of praise for Kane and, with the 19-year-old currently not in first-team contention at Stamford Bridge, it remains possible he could return to Ewood next season – potentially in another loan deal.

“You’d have to ask the lad himself that but he’s thoroughly enjoying his time here,” said the caretaker boss.

“His performances for a 19-year-old have been incredible.

“The way he’s fitted into the club, to listen to him around the place you’d think he’d been around here for 10 years himself.

“The players love him, he’s got great banter around the place.

“He fancies himself as a bit of a looker and a ladies’ man but the jury is out on that one!

“He’s a great lad and he brings the positivity we have been asking for.

“He’s been a value to the club and we’re delighted with him.

“We need four more big performances from him.”

Bowyer will assess a couple of knocks ahead of tomorrow’s match at third-placed Watford, while Martin Olsson is not yet ready to return from a knee problem.

But Bradley Orr is available after a rib injury, with David Bentley (knee) also coming into contention.

“Brad is another warrior who’s got great character and is determined to come back into the squad and help out,” Bowyer said.

“David Bentley has trained this week as well, so the timing of the, coming back is great for us.”
