A man with a knife attacked a couple on their way home in Rustington.

The assault happened at about 8.45pm on Thursday, April 4, when the man and a woman were walking home along a footpath that links Ash Lane to Station Road.

They were approached by a man who assaulted the man and threatened the woman at knifepoint while an attempt was made to grab her handbag. Nothing was stolen and they ran off.

The male victim suffered a cut to his head and went to Worthing Hospital for treatment.

A 23-year-old Rustington man was arrested near the scene of the incident on suspicion of robbery and has been interviewed and released on bail until May 4.

The suspect is described as a white man, of slim build, 5ft 7in to 6ft with short dark hair, wearing a dark jacket with his hood up. He was carrying a dark-coloured drawstring bag.

Det Sgt Colin O’Hare said: “There may be another suspect we need to identify and I urge anybody with information to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 1414 of 4/4.”
