LEE Grant is deep into negotiations with Burnley over a new contract.

The Clarets’ goalkeeper is nearing the end of the three-year deal he signed from Sheffield Wednesday under former boss Brian Laws.

But after establishing himself in the starting line-up under both Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche this season, both parties are understood to be keen to reach an agreement.

Grant has been an ever-present in the Championship for Burnley this term.

Having only turned 30 in the last two months, the former Derby County stopper has plenty of playing years ahead of him.

And his representative, Darryl Powell, has made it clear that Grant would be happy to remain at Turf Moor for the foreseeable future.

It is understood another three-year contract is being discussed.

Grant is among 10 senior professionals whose deals were set to expire in the summer. So far only Ross Wallace his signed new, reduced, terms, and young defender Kevin Long has agreed a new two-year deal after recently breaking into the first team more than three years after signing from Cork City. Michael Duff has also triggered an appearance-based clause to entitle him to a further 12 months with the Clarets, which would take him into his 10th season and make him eligible for a testimonial.

Grant could be the next Burnley player to tie himself to the club.

“We are constantly in talks with the club,” said Powell, the former Derby and Portsmouth midfielder.

“We don’t really know how it’s going to end but the club have made it clear they’d like to try to get something done.

“Lee is a good, young Championship keeper. It’s natural that other people will have interest in him.

“It’s football, we really don’t know what the outcome will be but we’re trying to get something sorted with Burnley. He is settled in the area so we’ll see if we can get something done.”
