‘Stand up and be counted’ call to Blackburn Rovers fans

‘POOR DECISION’ Ozz Jones ‘POOR DECISION’ Ozz Jones

THE sacking of Blackburn Rovers manager Michael Appleton caused a sudden rush of new members to the supporters’ trust.

Bosses at Rovers Trust, a fans group set up with the intention of buying a stake in the club, said more than 160 people signed up to the £10 per year organisation since the annoucement.

Membership has ‘grown steadily’ for the group, which has launched a major recruitment drive as confidence in owners Venky’s hit an all-time low.

Ozz Jones, co-chairman of Rovers Trust, said he was pleased that more people had joined the trust.

He said: “We continue to be saddened by events at Ewood Park, but we are delighted that so many Rovers fans see the supporters’ trust as the solution.

“We need to encourage as many fans as possible to join Rovers Trust. The more members we have, the more powerful our voice. It is a positive way to influence the current owners and we continue to request that they engage with us to ensure Blackburn Rovers has a brighter future.”

Fellow co-chairman Wayne Wild urged more Rovers supporters to sign up to the group in a bid to save the club.

He said: “Rovers fans need to stand up and be counted. Join the Rovers Trust and demand change.

“We demand a say in the ownership and the running of our football club now and in the future.”

Mr Wild said the sacking of Mr Appleton was a poor decision. He said: “The news should have come as a surprise, but sadly it did not.

“It was just the latest in a long line of incomprehensible and ill thought-out decisions that go back to the very start of the Venky’s ownership of Blackburn Rovers.

“It is obvious to any experienced fan or football professional that to keep changing managers will only lead to yet more instability and uncertainty. It is also costly to keep paying-off staff.

“The owners have to face up to the fact they are entirely responsible for the situation we find ourselves in with a second successive relegation a distinct possibility.”

No one, on behalf of Venky’s, was available to comment when the Lancashire Telegraph contacted the club.

I wonder if the majority of fans understand the finances. The Independent this morning, reports that Henning Berg will have to be paid off £2M. Divided between 10000 fans, that's £200 each - and that is just one terminated contract. I can't believe that a supporters group would be able to take on the debts and running costs even if the Venkys gave the club to them. Perhaps I'm wrong, but to me the Venkys have got to hit lucky, hope that the club stay up, then try to find some decent advice in order to restructure the club over the summer. I feel that if they walk away, we're stuffed.

Shebby Singh has decided he controls the club and will make all the decisions .

Singh , the man`s football history is a very poor footballer , probably senior amateur level at best ,he worked on T.V on a panel as a pundit for Premier league football, he was on the same panel as Steve McMahon ,after Singh would make a comment you could see the rye smile coming from the faces of the other panelists as if to say "what sh*t this man talks" , but low and behold he is and was the only guy with an Indian origin that was in any way shape or form involved in football ,hence the naive Venky`s hired him thinking he was respected .
The man is a clown and as long as he is there Rovers will continue to slide down , the truth of the matter is he has a massive opinion of his himself , a huge ego , he has plenty of verbal diaorrhea coming out his mouth but he does not have a clue how a football club is run ,we hear from inside sources he chums around with Hendry now, for us to move forward we need a clear out of these types of stupid, self important buffoons.

I'm still (almost) speechless at the supreme idiocy of our owners and Shebby Singh.

As we lurch from one disaster to another under these clowns I am now pretty much convinced that the club that has been a significant part of my life for 43 years is nearing the end.

I am not too concerned that Appleton was sacked if truth be told, but the method of his dismissal is simply not acceptable and shouldn't be to any decent person.

To learn from the TV that you have been sacked then to be handed a letter by a secretary confirming it shows nothing less than cowardice from the person concerned.

And that person can only be Shebby the snake.

It's also quite obvious that the lack of spine and honour runs straight up the food chain to the top of the Venky's hierarchy, that is evident in the simple fact that they are reneging on Henning Bergs contract.

How many other contracts have been reneged on?

No understanding, gross incompetence, cowardice, morally bankrupt and totally out of touch with reality.

This one single episode proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Venky's are not fit and proper owners of our once great club.

i dont think this is the solution,

the F.A should force ALL football clubs to have a fan on the board regardless of the owners as part of a continuous 'fit for purpose program' not just an enitial rule at the begining of their ownership?

the trust is a complete non starter, i cant understand why so many people can't see that, its clear as day.

people look at Swansea and say 'it will work' it wont, Swansea is a completly different entity, for the one that worked, there are hundreds that failed...

I think the majority of fans do understand the finances. I joined the trust though if only because I cant think of another way of nailing my flag to the right post other than not going to games and im not doing that. One thing, individually my absence would go unnoticed and would have no effect. We can see fans staying away but its made no difference to Venkys policy. By joining the trust, I am at least uniting with fellow supporters to show we want change. You are right that Venkys need decent advice, but don't you think they should know by now that those they are asking are no the right people? They are business people. I think they consult with those who's advice suits their purpose. Cheap options. They are also stubborn. We saw that from the way they kept Kean amid intense opposition yet ditched two managers that fans did not openly protest against. Common sense, humility, forethought and doing the right think are not characteristics of Venkys as football club owners. They simply don't care about the fans. They obviously dont care about their employees - the players. Anybody who questions the players motivation after all this is bonkers. They must not know who to listen to next. Appleton's manner was enough to depress somebody. Berg was like the grim reaper, kean was like an lunatic who couldnt believe he had been let out of the asylum. I despair we will ever have sense in leadership

That shows what a bigoted person you are. I can assure you me and my friends who have joined the trust are not penniless and do not frequent the Aqueduct. We have well paid responsible jobs and I for one, am involved in promoting and running a business for my job. It's actually fans like you are the ones we can do without. Small minded people, people who still would rather have a liar, conman and clueless manager who won relegation. Somebody who takes the side of these despicable owners rather than give some of your own fans credit for at least trying. I never hear you come up with one single sensible suggestion other than repeated boring phrases about people hounding Kean out. Thankfully we arent reliant on your know-how to sort the mess out.

While I agree with Mr Jones and Mr Wild, I actually committed to BRSIT in their early days.

But I withdrew my commitment when I had a leaflet thrust in my hand by a BRAG thug who at an earlier game, along with a group of his mates, half scared the life out of my daughter with their "aggression" towards Kean.

When I challenged this guy at that particular game I was told in no uncertain terms to "F**k off and go and get cancer".

If anyone from BRAG is involved with this group at a decision making level then I will take an awful lot of persuading to support them.

My apologies for seeming to attack your personal finances. They are of no consequence but your group is indeed penniless in the context of forcing any potential change of ownership. By all means huddle together in your little club led by Wolfie Wild while the rest of us real supporters pay our money and earn the right to be heard. Appletons sacking, by the way is a positive sign that however inept this regime may be, they are prepared to admit mistakes and bankroll the remedy. What does the Tufty Club have to offer?

What we need is someone to buy the Club who can afford it and take the Club on. It's no good dreaming about owning something that you will never have enough money to be able to afford. This Club needs a massive injection of capital both to purchase it and sustain it. Venky's have tried but surrounded themselves with the wrong people and it's all going pear shaped. They could do a lot worse than go back to John Williams cap in hand and say they have got it wrong and please help to sort it out. Where do we go from here Shebby got it so badly wrong on all fronts and then Venky's took note and acted and let Mr Shaw have a go and he did no better. The two won't talk therefore we are in limbo, Shebby or Derek Shaw have proved they are not the right people for the Club. Therefore they have to go back to John Williams or sell.Come on Venky's you have given it a go at some significant cost to yourselves Now get the right people in and put this mess we have some how got into right. League one next year or the year after will be curtains for all of us.

It isn't their money that's being wasted. It's Venkys London, or the clubs in other words. When the going get's too tough for them they'll just shut up shop, walk away and go bankrupt owing millions. They're not bothered.

what do you mean "are you really that stupid?" you say swansea is effectively a one off.....its not, it is commonplace on the continent and, in effect, compulsory in germany - seems to work - look at the crowds and success of german clubs at the moment in europe - a genuine part of the community.

swansea had to go bust to be owned by fan groups - look at their success since, compare and contrast that with the likes of pompey, leeds and coventry that have gone through a series of different non-town affiliated owners over the same period - i suspect like most that you don't particularly care for venkys - so what do you think might happen - they will look to make a quick exit and sell to anybody (like the 3 examples above) - we will be passed through a series of owners that neither love or care our club and the denouement will be capitulation of our once great club - and just like at pompey and swansea the supporters will be left to pick up the pieces - if you can't see that series of events unfolding (and i don't normally resort to insults, unless insulted myself) then i need to ask - ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID?
so in your scenario - you put a fan on the board with presumably no voting rights - - what will that achieve with the clowns that are currently in charge. . non execs in public companies have a responsibility to make sure the board is acting on behalf of the shareholders - in rovvers case the shareholders are the venkys - ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID?

it may have escaped your narrow-minded perspective - but we had, in effect, fan ownership under jack walker (albeit a beneficial dictatorship) who did what all backburn fans would do if we won the big prize at the bingo (a metaphor for you - not a statement of fact - AS YOU REALLY MAY BE THAT STUPID)

personally, i would wish that there was one person in charge of rovers that had the genuine interest of the club and the town at heart and pulled the relevant strings accordingly - the club currently has no connection with its staff, its supporters and the town - if you think that by keeping the existing framework or selling out to another bunch of overseas "investors" or a venture capital company - that the club will go from strength to strength.....then YOU REALLY ARE THAT STUPID!

i ignore when the likes of wild rover and dangerous dave are ritually slinging insults at each other (just like singh and shaw) and try and treat contributors with respect - but resent it when - just cos someone has a contrary view that insults is the refuge that is sought.

I hear it wasn't the owners decision though. Shebby flexing his muscles of power again. One day it will all come out, who was responsible for which decisions, advice giving, in-flighting, Venkys role, transfers, contracts. It will be too late for the club I think. Better decisions to sack a useless manager isn't something to be grateful for when the decision to appoint them was a wrong decision. One mistake yes, 3 mistakes no. Don't you get the impression that the more opposition Venkys get, bad press, criticism, the more they dig their heels in?

i ignore when the likes of wild rover and dangerous dave are ritually slinging insults at each other (just like singh and shaw) and try and treat contributors with respect - but resent it when - just cos someone has a contrary view that insults is the refuge that is sought.

so, in conclusion - i just have a different point of view to you - and am happy to argue the point - but, no sir, i am really not that stupid

We need John Williams heading a consortium from Middle East to buy back Roers from these Indian Billionaires who are doing a DIY job on the cheap.
You need a professional plumber not a DIY men doing a cowboy jobs at Ewood Park.Indians don't like spending their vast fortune they would keep it in Banks.Indians are not great philanthropist as in India 60% of the population are rich and middle class would not help their fellow 40% poor and destitutes in India. Why a family from India like Venkys who are billionaires want to spend their vast fortune into a small football club in Lancashire unless there is something like marketing tool for their billion dollar company.
We need to get rid of Venkys and people like John Williams could be our saviour.

The Venky's may well be incompetent and naive, but they are obviously being advised by people unknown, who have their own agenda. Why else would they employ Shaw, Agnew, and Shabby? The Three Stooges form the most useless, incompetent, and dare I say, possibly corrupt management team in football history.

Just look at their respective rewcords:-

Shaw - bankrupted PNE
Agnew - failed press officer
Singh - comic act on Malaysian TV

I'VE SAID IT BEFORE - NONE OF THEM SHOULD BE WITHIN A MILLION MILES OF A FOOTBALL CLUB

How on earth these three morons ever got involved on OUR club is a complete mystery. We can never move on until these three are history.

I agree with everything you say but would still rather have Venkys running the club than a bunch of misguided, penniless amateurs from the Tap Room of the Aqueduct.
"clueless manager who won relegation. "

Exactly - he WON something

Can't you look at the positives? These ARE exciting times. And to think you lot called Steve Kean a liar.

It would be pointless just throwing another manager onto the battle-ground that is Ewood Park.

They now have only one hope. Get John Williams back.

Go cap in hand to John, preferably with a delegation of heavyweight supporters, tell him what idiots they have been, how they were naively stitched up by Agent Anderson (who should by now be their arch-enemy) and plead with him to return.

That would be the only appointment they need to make. Tell him he has full authority to hire and fire and tell him to get on with the job immediately – with their full, unquestioned support.

Hold up their hands, tell him their stupidity has finally been realised and his brief is, if possible, to get the club back to where it was when they took over.

I know many fans are saying he would never come back, but it was Anderson who manoeuvred his departure and, subject to evidence that Anderson/Kentaro/SEM are consigned to history, he might just be tempted to return.

He knows (sorry, knew) the club inside out. It was effectively ‘his’ club and the job of rebuilding it to what it once was might just be the motivation and challenge that stirs him. If he can achieve it – and hopefully nail Anderson to the cross on the way - just think of the unbridled pride and adulation that would bring.

I don’t think money would particularly be a factor, but if he could salvage the club from the wreckage that now exists and get them back to the Premiership a massive, massive bonus would be fitting.

In my view, John is now their only salvation. He would come in here like a whirlwind – something no-one else could do.

But I could well understand it if he is hurting so much that he despises the Venky’s.

How can you criticise him? Do you think he wants the job of trying to drag the club away from another relegation? Do you think when he planned his holiday, he knew he would be back in temporary charge? He could cancel his holiday and there be a new manager in charge by the time he's going such is the unpredictability of Venkys.

Will the press realise at some point.

NO ACTUALLY MOST OF US WANTED APPLETON TO BE SACKED!

Venkys have shown a bit of intelligence for once.
If we had kept Appleton then next season would have been another write off (if we had stayed up).

Now is the time to rebuild again. Get talking to proper managers about taking a position in April/May. Get those managers to get a list of players they want and a list of players at BRFC they deem surplus and ACTION IT with what little remains of the parachute payments.

If the new guy is showing no signs of improving the squad by next Jan, sack him and start again. Thats life at a football club, you have to keep rebuilding until you find a formula that works.

If the next guy starts with this whole "this isnt my squad, i need more time to bring in players" whilst loosing game after game, SACK HIM! You don't hire a manager for him to go "this company is terrible, thats why i've failed to do anything of note in 3 months".

Do you think when he planned his holiday, he knew he would be back in temporary charge? He could cancel his holiday and there be a new manager in charge by the time he's going such is the unpredictability of Venkys.

If anyone from BRAG is involved with this group at a decision making level then I will take an awful lot of persuading to support them.
I've clashed swords with brag too, as have many others I know. I was also worried when I saw a picture of WW playing 5 a side with brag committee members.

I have pledged to the trust, but would withdraw that support if I felt the trust and brag were in cahoots.

Desireable as it is, Venkys are not just going to go.
They realised a long while ago that their ownership was an ill-advised business venture, the bottom line being that they simply don't have enough money to spend to make Rovers a viable Premiership outfit.
The problem is that they want some money back and they are leaking money at the gates, by ill-advised players' contracts, compensation payouts, paying Shebby and the PR firm which is clearly doing sweet FA to counter the torrent of ridicule pouring down on Rovers head because of the Venkys management.
I presume it's the London PR set who are putting out these silly stories about Sven, Rafa and lo and behold there's even now fans and of course the ever gullible LET who will run with that hare.
Venkys could do the decent thing and sell up to a fans' based consortium but the chances of that are NIL.
No oligarch is going to by Rovers, there simply isn't the fan base, there are better bargains on the market.
The FA isn't going to intervene and Straw's interventions in Parliament are just a PR stunt from the Bomber of Baghdad. The whole country is collapsing, so I cannot see the government intervening to save Rovers.
Footie needs a real sort out but that isn't going to happen until AFTER a general crash - even if it does then, because the collapse of the banks hasn't led to any sort of the financial sector, it will be too late for Rovers.
Wayne Wilde seems a decent guy but the chances of a fans' based buy ot, or a fans' buy out with a decent investor, like Swansea, is very very remote. Just look at the problems the Pompey fans are having. They're well organised and the local council will help, but still the preferred bidders for the wreckage will still be some flight-by-night business interest.
We are really facing bankrupcy and they'll be blood on the carpet back home in Pune when this debacle finally unravells, but who cares about that.
In the meantime, anyone left at Ewood is taking anything which isn't nailed down.
Let then end be sooner than later...and it could be.

Five things need to happen.

First Venkys need to sell 20% of the club to the Supporters Trust. This means there will be local representation on the board. Venkys will retain their asset which they are not going to walk away from until they get a return.

Second, they need to appoint a single CEO with proven football experience and it can be neither Singh, Shaw or Agnew. Let that man put the off the field business structure in place.

Three, in conjunction with CEO, decide what style of football the club is to play and appoint a proven manager who can deliver what the fans want to see.

Four, live within our means. Sensible financial contracts for all concerned with the club, with rewards built in for performance.

Five, Be Patient. This is the hardest league in the world to get out of.

While I agree with you regarding John Williams it is never going to happen.

Why?

Because Indian culture is caste driven and based on hierarchial, in this case, matriarchal principles.

And as any married man knows, women are never wrong.

Madame, or for that matter any of the Venky's will never say sorry, in their minds they are doing absolutely nothing wrong and will not listen to or accept criticism from people they simply believe are nothing more than minions.

The only possible way of making them do something is for the value of their organisation as a whole to be affected by what is happening at Ewood.

But that is extremely unlikely because the only people who care about Blackburn Rovers are it's fans.

And that simply isn't enough to have any affect whatsoever.

For a start John will be leaving Man City at the end of the season. He is joining the Professional Games' Match Officials Limited and, in his own words, his role will be ‘strategic’. Who knows what might happen if an alternative choice is put to him?

If what I have said is put on the table, I know which choice I would make. The challenge would be motivation enough.

What I have said is, in my opinion, the only - and the most cost-effective - way to get the club out of the perilous situation it is in. If Venky's cannot persuade John to come back and are unable to appoint a ceo of similar stature I'm afraid we are dead in the water.

I my view, this is the only choice they now have. No other appointment
will work.

I would not want to go from one set of clowns running the show to another set of clowns wanting to run the Shaw. Wild is quoted "Mr Wild said the sacking of Mr Appleton was a poor decision. He said: “The news should have come as a surprise, but sadly it did not.

“It was just the latest in a long line of incomprehensible and ill thought-out decisions that go back to the very start of the Venky’s ownership of Blackburn Rovers." Mr Wild you are a buffoon my man. Appleton was taking us down. We can all count on one hand how many shots we have had on target in the last few games. In fact when Kane had a shot on target on 80 mins or thereabouts against Burnley there was sarcastic cheers around me from Rovers fans. Should we wait until we are down and then sack him? Personally I would not ahve employed Appleton in the first place but a dare say most Rovers fans would say that. Mr Wild assumes this position as great leader when in actual fact all he has done is marry in to a very good company. He is certainly no business man (welder or sheet metal worker) that has started a company from scratch and built it up to the size of company he works for today. He spouts garbage and gets more often than not morons to follow him. BRSIT or BRAG, no thanks not for me.
