Saints in small table bid

Burnley’s St Andrew’s kicked off their bid to become the first team to retain the North West small table snooker championship with a comfortable win over visitors Carlton Bowl (Blackpool).

Lee Sharples, probably the best-handicapped player in the tournament on 15, opened up with his usual win and Chris “Pony Tail” Lawson knocked in a 50 break to open up the gap. Darren Creggie stitched it in style.

Alexandra from Darwen coasted in at Blackpool against one of the Excelsior teams. George Holden opened up and Alfonso Bellusci rattled in a 50 break in the next frame. Jamie Risdale and Ian Harle finished it off.

Second round draw: Alexandra Hotel (Darwen) v Alexandra SC (Nelson) No 2, St Andrew’s (Burnley) No 1 v 1st Bowl (Blackpool) No1 or Fox & Hounds (Blackburn) No 1, Guards Club (Blackpool) v Alexandra (Nelson) No 1, Ighten Leigh (Burnley) v Layton Institute (Blackpool), 1st Bowl (Blackpool) No2 or H&A Whirleybirds (Blackpool) No 1 v Brun Grove (Blackpool), St Andrews (Burnley) No 2 or The Venue (Cleveleys) v Nelson Poultry No 2 or Fox & Hounds (Blackburn) No 2, West View (Blackburn) or Excelsior (Blackpool) No 1 v Low Moor (Clitheroe).
