To call this performance poor would be to credit Burnley with merit they didn't and don't deserve. Dyche has to be applauded for assembling an entire team from the local pubs, because that is how they play.

You could see the different class between the two teams. Hull look and play like a team wanting to go somewhere, 'up' being the prefered direction, whilst Burnley couldn't find a direction even if it was signposted many times along the touchline. If it wasn't for Austin's early goals in the season, Burnley would be fighting a relegation battle, and with this team, they'd lose it! This is as good as it is going to get this season for Burnley.

You can forget any joy at Blackburn, even though they too, are not playing to what they could do, you can guarantee the class will be on show next Sunday, because they want it more...and they'll get it!

The Claret's trooped off at the end of the match looking all very sorry for themselves. There's no spark, no fire, no motivation that I can see, just an entire team of 'almost rans'. There's nothing special about the team, nothing watchable, and certainly nothing they give that inspires confidence.

Dyche cannot take this team any further, he hasn't the capability or the resources to do so, and even if he did have the resources, he would mismanage them, because he doesn't have the acumen required to turn clogs into Louis Vuittons...there simply is no class in the team!

We seem to have no Idea on the pitch. We don't test the opposing keepers enough even when going behind.No pressure put on the away team CLUELESS.

When we have taken the lead at home we can't hold onto it, let alone add to it. When we go behind we don't seem to be able to do anything about it to get back on equal terms.

Let's face it I only listend to the game on player but Hull didn't really have to do too much to win the game.

I don't think Rovers will be too worried about us this coming weekend.

Having said that we have taken 10 points from 18 away this year. So that's some consolation.

I'm afraid I don't have any confidence in this side at the moment going in to the game on Sunday.

I'm also not sure on SD . He goes on about stats but stats don't win you games ( Now that is a stat) .

pompey - greetings. i was at the dingle game earlier tonight.

before the game me and some other volunteers were shaking buckets for prostate cancer uk charity (we did rovers v posh a couple of weeks ago and oldham v swindon earlier in the season).

for each fixture the volunteers are given "comps" for the game as it is the nominated charity for the football league.

well, as my neighbour is a dingle i took the option to watch burnley/hull and can confirm that burnley were dreadful - no creativity, no imagination....an incredibly lacklustre performance....awful

i dread to think how diabolical the game will be on sunday.....two bald men fighting over a comb springs to mind. my only hope is that we play out a bore draw and at least us rovers supporters can maintain our 34yr gloating record.

As a Rovers fan I dont hold much hope for any sort of quality from either team on Sunday... its going to be worse than poor if both sides last outing are anything to go by

Last night we were awful. I've no need to add further comments to the ones above. Come Sunday, I suspect it's not the best team that's going to win it so much as the worse team will lose it. As others have suggested, "bore draw" sounds very much on the cards.

So SD likes stats does he? How about these in his 23 league games in charge.
12 home games - scored 8 goals
11 away games - scored 13 goals
Scored more than once in a game - 4 times
Won 7 times
If that continues then if the club is being run like a business you must fall on your sword. You will stop people from spending their money on inflated ticket prices which the chairmen can ill afford. They must start to ask questions of SD's capability, especially as we are told they can't afford wholesale changes.
EH had problems with the defence which you have greatly improved but at what price?
What I see is a team that has lots of possession within the first 50% of the pitch and playing nice football in this space. Still that is not difficult if the opposition choose to sit in like last night and you have 10 players against 3 or 4 in that part of the pitch. You have isolated one of the best strikers in the division by doing this and his supply is virtually nil. You then claim that you had lots of possession in matches, of course you have as the opposition will let you play in that bit of the park. As soon as it comes to committing numbers forward it simply doesn't happen and therefore everything breaks down as soon as we get into the last third as we are completely outnumbered.
The midfield needs pushing up 10 yards and should not be sat on the toes of the defence when playing at home.
Recently you said nothing to lose and all pout for results yet you line up as you did last night. Way to negative in your approach.
Why not play 2 widemen and 2 centre forwards if you have nothing to lose? Try it and see, give it a chance, you just might see something. So what if they score twice and we do. It is better than watching what you are currently serving up. Get 2 up and then change it?? All you are doing is serving up total drivel and the consequences are inevitable, times are hard, people will not pay top prices to watch that.
What odds for a low score draw or narrow defeat on Sunday?

At the start of the season the first thing I looked for was the two Rovers fixtures, and now, with it right upon us, I couldn't care less about it. Dyche has managed, with his negative soul destroying football, to kill any enthusiasm I had for my team. I'll be out doing something else on Sunday and won't even be giving the derby match a second thought.
Dyche fails to realise that it's an entertainment industry, and an expensive one at that, and this kind of football is anything but entertaining, he can't even argue that it's getting results. I don't think I'm the only one that is now finding better things to spend their money on rather than watching that dross.

First of all I commend you and your fellow volunteers collecting on behalf of prostate cancer something close to home personally to me if you get my drift.

Regarding the form of the clarets the wheels have well and truly fell off. There we are start of January 7th in the table and It's the same old story , Burnley start to plummet down the table instead.

SD after match interview mentions we are in transition from the Premiership!! Didn't Hull City come down with Burnley and where are they sitting in the table NOW?

Both McClaret and BananaClarets tell it in a nutshell. You do not support dross or constant failure. Any club that wants a following, loyalty, and support through thick and thin, it has to earn it!

It is not a 'given', nor should it be an 'expectation' that fans will, perhaps through misguided loyalty, turn up on matchdays and part with their ever-shrinking hard-earned cash. Football is too much of a 'gravy-train', and yet, through these times of imposed austerity (by another gravy-train industry), it manages to beguile the football fan of his/her money. Of course, fans come from diverse backgrounds, from the unemployed to the 'buffered-against-au
sterity' wealthy, but regardless of the financial schisms apparent, they all conjoin to support their club, and the club's survival depends on it.

Without the football fan, even your Man Utd's and your Man City's would disappear. Sky would lose a massive slice of its income if fans did not subscribe, or have a reason to. The point being, fans really are the lifeblood of the game, not your clubs, not your TV deals, but the football fan...the true and genuine stakeholder and financier of the game! Even Liverpool fans are now being asked (or expected) to trump up more money to watch their team next season. How the hell does a season ticket go up?

If a club sees dwindling support, putting prices up is not going to put bums on the seats. That is just a typical greedy business gesture that typifies the contemptuous mindset of expectation behind it. Nor will a team performing badly put bums on seats either, fandom should be based on merit and not deluded loyalty to fiefdom. It has gotten to the stage where fans are seemingly addicted to the oscillating 'highs and lows' and 'fixes of camaraderie' of the game, rather than the results they actually pay to hopefully see achieved.

Obviously, no team is going to win every match, nor will it perform to fan's hopes every game, but the fan has every right to praise and criticise accordingly to the performance, and to withdraw both their support and money if their team is turning into a dead horse, which is something you cannot feed back into health and vital life. Above all else, you do not reward failure!

These are just some thoughts that clubs, owners and directors, managers and players, need to concen themselves with if they want the fan to part with his/her money. If fans began to truly act with economic intelligence, relegation would be the less of all concerns for any club, or indeed, the whole gravy train that is English football.

Thought I'd have a look on here to judge "the other sides" chances ahead of Sundays game. Don't confuse me with the idiots who go on the others' forum to hand out abuse. I'm Rovers to the core, but have a lot of mates and a father in law who are staunch Clarets and its surprising to see your apprehension about Sunday equals that of a lot of Rovers fans. My worry is very very few of our players and higher up will throw themselves in the line of fire for the cause&that's what upsets proper fans. East Lancashire is a place where mistakes are easily forgiven if we know players are giving it their all, as the fans do in their jobs.

You've very little to worry about because apart from Rhodes who might poach a goal & is cool 1 on 1 , Dunny & Peds who are the only players in the squad with that bit of game changing class and Grant Hanley who'll throw himself in Hendry style, the rest of the available players are either not good enough or not interested.
Just hope its not a 0-0 bore draw and the fans have something for the memory bank at the end but take it from me an honest Blue, this is Burnleys best chance of breaking that 34 year millstone around their neck. I hope you don't do it obviously but I think both sets of fans have got to come to terms with the fact , that they're following 2 very very average sides in a very average league and from what I've seen of the top clubs , the 3 that get promoted will get a sharp awakening in the Premiership. I've been home and away this season and not seen a side convince me they'll hold their own in the top flight.

Hi Walshy, seeing as I'm the one whom suggested the class aspect, I'll see if I can answer your question to it.

The Blackburn team on paper looks the most classy team in the Championship, but obviously they are not performing to the theory. When placed side-by-side with the Burnley team, it's certainly a case of class distinction...i.e., middle against working. A clumsy analogy, I know, but I think it illustrates the cleft between the teams.

I've just read Dyche's explanation of why the Burnley players are under-performing? It is because they 'fear' the expectations of the fans. If that is the case, they'll positively 'freeze' on Sunday. It's as if he is already capitulating and preparing the fans for the loss.

it is quite clear that both sets of fans are feeling uneasy about the game, and this is showing in the comments. Both want to win it, but both know their team is under-performing, and feel they may lose.

I've been a Claret supporter all my life, but to me, this is just another game where we need to take the points. I do not subscribe to the rivalry as I have lived and worked in both towns, and seen it from both sides, the good banter and the downright ugliness. I love the game, and like all other football fans, I've seen it turned into the contrived and controlled business it has become, that appeals to football fan traditions to keep it turning over.

If you go back 19 years, Blackburn were on the verge of taking the Premiership crown, and Venkys wasn't even a possibility. Jack Walker loved the club, he was a fan, and he put his considerable money where his mouth was, and it worked wonders. Yet, he was an entirely different owner of the club to what you have today. He put money into Rovers as if he was putting a son through university, it was that kind of support he gave. Bring the clock forward to the present, and you have Indian chicken farming millionaires owning the club. Did we all pass into the twilight zone over the years? I mean, how absurd as it all become?

I wish I'd had some ironing to do. Last nights performance was utterly dreadful! There are some decent players in that team but SD has made them look clueless! Good players dont become bad over night so it has to be down to the manager. Charlie Austin' s goals make him Burnley's most potent weapon and yet SD plays a formation that doesn't even give him a kick. Only heading in one direction with this guy I'm afraid

Interesting to see 1 of the posters saying our class will come out Sunday. What class is that then? I've been watching half hearted performances all season by players who are here for an easy ride. You've very little to worry about because apart from Rhodes who might poach a goal & is cool 1 on 1 , Dunny & Peds who are the only players in the squad with that bit of game changing class and Grant Hanley who'll throw himself in Hendry style, the rest of the available players are either not good enough or not interested.
Just hope its not a 0-0 bore draw and the fans have something for the memory bank at the end but take it from me an honest Blue, this is Burnleys best chance of breaking that 34 year millstone around their neck. I hope you don't do it obviously but I think both sets of fans have got to come to terms with the fact , that they're following 2 very very average sides in a very average league and from what I've seen of the top clubs , the 3 that get promoted will get a sharp awakening in the Premiership. I've been home and away this season and not seen a side convince me they'll hold their own in the top flight.
Here's to a good game Sunday lunchtime, and I hope its won by the best team on the day, with a piece of brilliance and not a dodgy Scott Dann backpass or some scruffy 3yard Rhodes toe poke after some ball watching and blaming each other from your defence. I'd take it mind, but rather have an end to end , blood and thunder game. The oldest and most passionate derby in English football deserves it.

Another fair comment. Makes a change from the usual 'my dads harder than your dad' comment'. My dads past it anyway!!!

Hi Walshy, seeing as I'm the one whom suggested the class aspect, I'll see if I can answer your question to it.

The Blackburn team on paper looks the most classy team in the Championship, but obviously they are not performing to the theory. When placed side-by-side with the Burnley team, it's certainly a case of class distinction...i.e., middle against working. A clumsy analogy, I know, but I think it illustrates the cleft between the teams.

I've just read Dyche's explanation of why the Burnley players are under-performing? It is because they 'fear' the expectations of the fans. If that is the case, they'll positively 'freeze' on Sunday. It's as if he is already capitulating and preparing the fans for the loss.

it is quite clear that both sets of fans are feeling uneasy about the game, and this is showing in the comments. Both want to win it, but both know their team is under-performing, and feel they may lose.

I've been a Claret supporter all my life, but to me, this is just another game where we need to take the points. I do not subscribe to the rivalry as I have lived and worked in both towns, and seen it from both sides, the good banter and the downright ugliness. I love the game, and like all other football fans, I've seen it turned into the contrived and controlled business it has become, that appeals to football fan traditions to keep it turning over.

If you go back 19 years, Blackburn were on the verge of taking the Premiership crown, and Venkys wasn't even a possibility. Jack Walker loved the club, he was a fan, and he put his considerable money where his mouth was, and it worked wonders. Yet, he was an entirely different owner of the club to what you have today. He put money into Rovers as if he was putting a son through university, it was that kind of support he gave. Bring the clock forward to the present, and you have Indian chicken farming millionaires owning the club. Did we all pass into the twilight zone over the years? I mean, how absurd as it all become?

You've confirmed what I thought, but I wasn't saying it first on your forum as I didn't want confusing with a lot of Rovers fans who misguidedly believe we gave a right to win. It also illustrates my "commitment" comment, we could (notice I didn't say should)be doing a lot better but the mindset of the players is not right. And this is what winds fans up, you graft all week , look forward to Saturday or a midweek game, meet in the boozer for a pint & some anticipation of a good result and get served up with 90 minutes of luke warm half hearted drivel, leave the ground thinking why you do it , then come back for more the next game. Jesus, if players were 20% as dedicated as supporters we'd have a starting point!
Thanks for your comments on Jack Walker, he was just as you say a proper fan with a dream and a few quid to help him fulfil it. Pity his family didn't share his passion, but that's what you get for marrying out of your class and always having daddys money to bail you out , without having a clue about the work involved getting that wealth. I don't entirely blame Venkeys , they bought into a way (cheaply) of increasing their wealth & that's what club ownership is all about these days, they don't give a flying toss about the club or the fans. The Walker family are just as much to blame, they saw the club as a mill-stone around their neck, sapping "their" money & couldn't wait to unload it.
As you say "real" owners have been bought out of football, Jack wouldn't recognise the world of football now and Bob Lord would be just the same. Imagine those two self made & hard faced when they had to be, men sat there with some spotty faced 19 year old promising prospect of a player and his blinged up agent being told that he wants 5 grand a goal on top of his £30k/week and his "buy out" clause. They'd be out on their ear and their feet wouldn't touch Nuttal St / Harry Potts Way as them 2 chased them out of their offices! We've succumbed to agents laying down the law and the game is worse for it.
13 years ago your manager Stan Ternant commented on our "ferrari" team destroying your "fiesta" team. That Rovers squad was no better than todays squad, but they had Souness driving them. He had a board & a chief exec to answer to & there's the difference. If this lot don't put a shift in they will have people making excuses for them, so why bother? When the communication thro a chain of command hits the top , the real reason has been lost in translation& they all get off scot free. They're not going to have a Bob Lord turning up on Monday & tearing a strip off them for a below par show , no they'll jump back into their AMG Mercs, Audi R8's, or Bentleys , swan off to their air conditioned pads in Cheshire and play Xbox or Tweet their similarly bubblewraped mates.
Just another game on Sunday to the majority of players from both teams I imagine, they might just as well be playing Charlton for what it'll mean to them. I wonder if Simon Garner or Peter Noble thought the Cotton Town derby was just another game??
