Blackburn Rovers new boys playing for futures
9:45am Tuesday 5th March 2013 in Sport
By Chris Flanagan, Sports reporter
CAMERON Stewart and David Jones admit they are both playing for their futures during their loan spells at Blackburn Rovers.
The duo could be handed their first starts for Rovers in tonight’s Championship fixture at Bolton Wanderers after coming off the bench to make debuts in Saturday’s 3-2 home loss to Peterborough.
Stewart and Jones have both arrived on loan until the end of the season, from Hull and Wigan respectively, and face uncertain futures once the current campaign is over.
Stewart, who can play on either wing, has fallen down the pecking order at Hull under Steve Bruce and a loan spell with Rovers’ East Lancashire rivals Burnley earlier in the season saw him make only two starts.
Having hoped to impress enough to earn a permanent deal at Turf Moor, he did not feature at all in the two months after Sean Dyche’s arrival as boss.
The 21-year-old is now eager to put a difficult period behind him and stake a claim for a longer term future at Ewood.
“It’s a big opportunity to try to get some games and hopefully show the world what I’m about again,” he said.
“It’s probably been my toughest season in professional football so far and hopefully I can put that behind me now.
“I enjoyed my time when I first signed for Hull. I was playing week-in, week-out and I was settled there, so when things changed it was hard to take.
“And it was a weird time for me at Burnley. Eddie Howe brought me in and I played the first few games, then Sean Dyche came in. To be fair he was quite honest with me about the other players that were there.
“But it was a loan that didn’t work out in the end and obviously when other managers look at it, they think he’s had two clubs and he’s not played so it’s a negative outlook.
“Hopefully I can show people while I’m here what I’m about.
“I know this is a loan but if it goes well I’d have to consider my options because under Steve Bruce I’ve not really got those opportunities.
“I’ve got a year left on my contract and if I have to go back to Hull then that’s what I’ve got to do.
“But at the end of the season I will be considering my options and seeing if I can move on.”
Stewart and Jones both went straight into the Peterborough game without having had a chance to train with Rovers, although the duo will be cup tied for Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final at Millwall.
Jones came off the bench to score on Saturday and also hopes to impress at Rovers as his Wigan contract comes to an end this summer.
The 28-year-old midfielder has made only eight league starts at Wigan this season and, having not played for almost a month, asked Roberto Martinez to let him join Rovers after hearing of their interest.
“I train really hard and you want to be playing on a regular basis,” said Jones, who like Stewart started his career at Manchester United.
“In recent weeks at Wigan I haven’t done. Maybe the manager did me a favour in terms of letting me go when perhaps he needed a bit of cover.
“But he listened to what I wanted and what was best for me. The opportunity came and I was very eager to take it.
“My future is uncertain and I want to do as well as I can and who knows what will happen.
“Obviously we’re getting into a stage when it does pop into your head what am I going to be doing next season?
“But in terms of right now there’s nothing I can do about it and I just want to do what I can for Blackburn Rovers.”
* Norwegian international midfielder Ruben Yttergard Jenssen is due to arrive for a few days of training with Rovers, according to reports in the player’s homeland.
The 24-year-old played down talk of a transfer, insisting he wanted to gain experience in England – linking up with compatriot Morten Gamst Pedersen.
Jenssen currently plays for Tromso and would not be available until the summer in any case.

The defence has to have cover and support from midfield so I would pick Pedersen in place of Bentley.
Both Lowe and Rekik looked better on Saturday in the second half because Jones took control of the midfield, and we will need more of that tonight or we will get slaughtered.
I feel for Lowe, he spends so much time covering for Murphy I think he gets more criticism than he deserves, I just get a feeing he will play much better alongside someone like Jones.
Up front, well Campbell isn't doing it for me so I think Appy has to have the balls to pick Gomes alongside Rhodes.

Well, he's allowed to for tonight, so here's hoping he does!

Please don't let the names "Murphy" and "Orr" appear anywhere on the team sheet. The only place I want to see "Murphy" is in the headline "Danny Murphy leaves Rovers to help Burnley into the relegation zone".

Hanley, Rhodes, Lowe, Henley, Kean, King, Olsson all have the quality to be/are already good players in my opinion. They just need a few of the senior players to be top of their game to support their development - I'm looking at you Pederson, Dann, Kaz.
Take each game at a time, see what happens.

I hate to say it but 10/11 for a Bolton win looks like a good bet to me.

Stuart and Jones have to start, along with Henley.

i haven't seen anything other than 'highlights' of the posh game, so can't comment on how both centre mids performed, but murphy has on several occasions looked either off the pace or disinterested at times this season and this has reflected badly on others. the most recent live game i saw was the win at arsenal and the closing down from williamson in the middle was part of the reason why we managed to get away with a win. arsenal had pressure but were not that creative in really dangerous areas. because of the high tempo cover, the defence could stay in position and focused.
pedersen gives the ball away too much for him to get a regular CM start, in my opinion, but i do feel he would still be worth starting with in the FA cup game, as he would provide the industry alongside Lowe. this could be the platform we then let others operate from to try and cause them some problems.

'You Tool' is a term of affliction (sorry affection) used by the townsfolk of the Yorkshire outpost known as Burnley (which for some strange reason masquerades as being in Lancashire) but this has never been accepted as factual by the good people of Blackburn - which of course is the capital of East Lanc's.
These 'Tools' from Burnley are known for their low foreheads (which are dominated by a 'penile' looking protuberance) and for their low IQ -both due to constant family interbreeding.
They also have a long term tendency of never being able to beat their long time local rivals Blackburn Rovers, and their recent very poor record against the mighty Rovers stretches back almost four decades since they were last able to see a victory against BRFC either home or away.
Thx Fanny - glad you asked us to look up 'you tool'.....
