HALF-TIME: Charlton 0, Burnley 1

CHARLIE Austin's 25th goal of the season has put Burnley in the driving seat at Charlton.

The Clarets dominated the first half but did not look as though they would have anything to show for it, until Austin came up with a goal of the season contender in the 43rd minute.

The top scorer had seen an early header drop comfortably into keeper David Button's hands, and an angled drive turned behind.

But there was no stopping his 25-yard screamer, fired into the top right corner.

And it could prove to be an important goal for the Clarets, who had gone almost 350 minutes without one during their run of six games without a win.

Alex Kacaniklic enjoyed a lively debut for Burnley after yesterday signing on loan until the end of the season from Fulham, while Austin thrived on the support of striker Martin Paterson in a front two.

Paterson had the ball in the net before Austin scored, but it was ruled out for offside.

It was not entirely one-way traffic. Charlton offered a threat at set pieces and it needed good reactions from Lee Grant to tip over a Danny Haynes header when a Johnnie Jackson corner wasn't cleared.
