Dismal Rovers out-foxed
10:24pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in Sport
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
MICHAEL Appleton was left extremely disappointed with his side as they suffered a 3-0 Championship defeat away at Leicester City.
The dismal defeat at the King Power Stadium leaves Rovers seven points adrift of the Championship top six and without a win in four league games.
First half goals from Chris Wood and Harry Kane gave Nigel Pearson's Foxes a deserved 2-0 half time lead, as Rovers were made to look second best all over the pitch before Andy King headed a late third.
Rovers entertain struggling Peterborough knowing it will take a formidable run between now and the end of the season to close in on the top six.
“It was not great," said Rovers boss Appleton. "Leicester played ever so well. They made us work very hard from the start the most disappointing thing was the manner with which we conceded the goals.
"Hopefully we get a reaction. That is the biggest think we will be looking for on Saturday. At half time I said to the lads don’t get thumped by five or six. I said let’s make sure we don’t get beat in the second half and we wouldn’t have been had it not been for their 93rd minute goal."

You have got to be joking me... its leicester city not barcelona. Also I hear Nunes is on his way in the summer, which is crazy because he might be the one player to help unlock defences. Anyway we all can see that Lowe, Pederson, and Murphy and prob Campbell are crap so maybe Appy will open his eyes sooner rather than later

The problem we have at the minute is strategic. When we attack we commit 3 players, 1 in the box, no pressing whatsoever. Other teams press us into our own half in possession and we cant get back out. When was the last time Murphy and/or Lowe were in the box other than from a set piece?
I'm still struggling to understand why Appleton thinks that substitutes are a part of the crowd or that he doesn't want to upset anyone by substituting them. His job as the manager is to change the game in our favor when its tight or when were loosing and yet he seems utterly content to let the game ride out without any intervention. Surely changing the game on the fly is a good 50% of his job? For me Appleton's a waste of time, another inexperienced coach that was hired on the cheap. We need a manager who's proven, we are a historic club - we deserve better than second rate coaches - before Steve Kean the idea of having an untested manager would have been ludacris so why do we accept it now?!

Which would be a disaster.
And that's why I called him an idiot (above).
Does anyone really want BRAG back?
Appleton has to be given a chance, there is no way he can turn things around this season, like it or not we are stuck in this division for the foreseeable.
He didn't sign Murphy did he?
And from what I have seen of DJ Campbell, well, pretty good bit of business not getting the registration through in time during the window, otherwise we would be lumbered with him for God knows how long.
The major issue is the midfield, that needs to be sorted at the end of the season, then from the start of next season we can judge Appleton.

2 things..... if he picks Murphy again I will question his fitness to manage BRFC, and next what induced him to take off Rhodes, who worked the line and channels as best he could, and leave on the apology of a striker in Campbell? Madness.

Appleton still has to cope with the Kean legacy. It's unfair to judge him until he's had the Summer to re-assess what he's got, what he needs and what he ends up with, dependant on what the owners let him have.

I can honestly say after watching Rovers for 30yrs, that was the second worst performance I've witnessed.
We essentially had one chance which required and world class save from Schmeichel. after that it was worse that woeful.
the defending for the 2 frst half goals was abysmal- not surprised MA took off our whole left side at half time. The second was ineptitude itself- a corner and no-one jumped- it was incredible.
The midfield was non existent- bentley, Murphygave the ball away so frequently it was frightneing- Very worrying

We're missing Olsson, Williamson, Etuhu, Kaz, King, Henley, Best and more. For once we genuinely have huge injury problems, especially in midfield. Murphy and Lowe haven't been great, but what other option is there at the moment?
This season we've gone Kean -> Black -> Berg -> Appleton... how many teams go through four managers in a season and achieve promotion, or any kind of success? And right from the word go, thanks entirely to Kean, the players have never been as fit as they needed to be. You can't start a season like that, despite how many fortunate results you get.
Promotion with all that would be a remarkable achievment. We won't get it, but no use crying over spilt milk. Let's let Appy build something for next season then really launch an assault on the top of the table.
And with any luck, when we get promoted this time next year, Shebby will be asked about it on his talkshow on Malaysian TV and Steve Kean will be nowhere to be seen.

After getting rid of a lot of the so called 'deadwood' at the club in January he brought in the likes of Rekik and Campbell.
Rekik (a defender) made his Rovers' debut at Hull City playing out of position on the leftside of midfield.
In the last 2 games he has played at left fullback.
His he really any better at fullback than Gael Givet?
Givet has been on the subs bench for almost every game this year without ever making an appearance. Why?
Is the reason contractual?
Similarly, is Campbell any better than Gomes or Goodwillie?
On his performances to date I don't think he is.
With regards to Pederson. It was clear 4 years ago that he was no longer a winger. That is why Sam Allardyce played him in central midfield in a 5 across the middle.
As most of the fans know, our main problem is in central midfield where the likes of Murphy, Lowe, Etuhu are just not god enough.
Apart from bringing in Williamson (now injured) Appleton has done nothing to improve this area and we hae been brushed aside by decent teams such as Brighton, Hull and Leicester.
In hs first few days at the club, Appleton talked alot of sense and I thought that we had managed to appoint a decent manager at long last.
Whilst I have not given up on him, I have recently been disappointed with some of his loan signings, his negative tactics, and his reluctance to use subs to try and win games.
His half-time team talk 'don't let us get thumped 5 or 6' seems to sum it all up.

As for dj Campbell after the Leeds game Appleton said that he had lost a family member, n he had took it hard, well don't start with the lad simple as that, if his head ain't on the game why start him for last few games you fool, wake up Appleton
Best words a heard at end of interview was he was trying to get in 2 players b4 Saturday, well in my eyes the squad lacks another 5 players n don't mean boys from Portugal I mean some enperience muscle in that midfield n defence,

Venkys have shown their continuing stupidity and lack of ambition by head hunting Appleton. Its a joke, he is Shaw's mate an unproven coach with a dreadful record.
What did we really expect?
If McCarthy had our squad at his disposal we would have been in the play off positions now. But then McCarthy wouldn't have bent over and taken it.

Appy has been in charge for 10 games in total, and won 4. When was the last time Rovers had a manager with a 40% win ratio?!
Yes the football hasn't been good in the last 3 games... but as I said, Olssen, Williamson, CKR, Best, King, Hanley, Etuhu all out. He's not necessarily electing to play Murphy and Lowe there - he has no other option!! You cant seriously argue that we wouldn't be much stronger side with Olssen and King pushing for a spot in the midfield?? Get away man.
The one thing Appy has done is he's made us harder to beat. Yes, we were crap last night... but a Kean/Berg team would have had to score goals to not lose as we couldn't keep a clean sheet. I'd take a 0-0 draw with Leeds over a 2-0 loss away to Blackpool. (Interestingly, when can you remember Rovers ever having a 0-0 scoreline under Kean? Was there ever one?).
He's made us more organised and tightened up the defence. It's not ideal, but I'd certainly not slate him until he's had a shot at a team with those injured players back.

you may know more about individual departures than me but we only (publicly) have had kean's word for emerton's departure re: service - i don't know 'ewt about compassion. don't know about nelsen thumping kean (although if he did - maybe he was just doing his captain's duty to the club) i thought it was meant/rumoured to be n'zonzi - i do know kean said he worried that nelsen would never kick a ball again and played for spurs the following week. salgado wasI KNOW desperate to play and offered to waive any appearance nonsense in his contract.
i do agree with you that it is inappropriate to judge appleton now when he is managing a team and dealing with a club that resembles the tower of babel for over 2 years....he has to be given time and that time extends to transfers in and out over the summer and at least to christmas 2013 and hopefully into 2014 - dumping another manager would show that we have (as we all know) descended into a banana republic.

Appleton needs time and some decent funds to prove his worth and another season for sure. This season is all about consolidation now and building to have a real go to get out of this league next season.

For Appleton (if he is indeed the right man to take the club forward) has a mountain to climb changing and ridding the club of 70 to 80% of the current squad and replacing with players who will play for the club and team with 100 % commitement...being prepared to prove themselves worthy week in week out that they want success for the club and worthy of wearing the shirt....AND NOT BEING IN IT FOR THE EASY MONEY, BLOODY DAYLIGHT ROBBERY BY SO MANY OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS...

many issues at Ewood...yes
But,.......
I think we the fans need to get behind the club.
BRFC is lacking passionate support for the club from the fans,
There's too many people attacking each other and trying to break up anything and everything with BRFC.
Many aren't even allowed to have their say on forums without being attacked.
The team is playing poor ...Yes
The manager is inexperienced..Yes
However, he seems to be doing his best and is a straight forward guy.
The owners are having an initiation into Footy club ownership that will forever last in their lives & change their lives for ever......!!!
a nightmare......!!!
for the owners and for everyone involved with the club.....!!
But is the answer just to carry on throwing money at the club..????
All I would ask the fans is its not too late, now is the time to start sticking together.
Lets show society that we are BRFC, a club strong & together wanting to go forward.
because at the moment everyone out there knows that BRFC are weak, the club are hurting within and by attacking each other we are getting weaker.
Simply put, some fans are doing a dis service to BRFC by playing into the hands of our enemies....!!
Lets get together, lets promote BRFC and our strong fan base as being strong and together and I'm sure we can ride these waves no matter how big in these current choppy waters.

No one else remember the 4-2 against Derby ? If memory serves me correctly, we were 2-0 down in the second leg and Kev Moran got a goal which put us through on aggregate.
By the way, if you look back in the archives, Straw announced himself to be a Man City fan when he first surfaced in the late 1970, he only became a Rovers fan when New Labour Laddism made watching footie a must.
