BARNOLDSWICK came from 1-0 down to beat Ashton Athletic thanks to two goals from Mark Threlfall.

Town had to reshuffle their side once again with Aaron Hollingdrake and Paul Fildes unavailable while new signing Samuel Arrowsmith deputised for Billy Carrington in goal.

Tom Bradley, signed in midweek from Padiham, played at left back with Ashley Alderson and Billy Priestley both back in the squad after serving a match suspension last week.

And it was the most uncomfortable of starts for Arrowsmith in the Barlick goal after he spilled a routine free kick at the feet of Martyn Jackson who prodded home from close range.

But Town fought back and Lewis Jordan had a shot cleared off the line and a thunderous goal-bound header from Airey was also cleared.

But Town’s pressure finally paid off when they equalised in the 36th minute, Threlfall heading home a Bradley cross over a stranded David Moran in the visitors goal.

The start of the second half brought more goalmouth action at both ends before Town netted what proved to be the winner in the 52nd minute – and it was a goal to forget for the visiting keeper.

A Blades cross was slightly behind Threlfall who could only loop his header towards goal.

The ball appeared to be going over so Moran left it only to see it dip under the bar and into the net.

Bradley was impressing on his debut and pushed forward towards the Ashton penalty area, the defenders retreated before him until he was on the edge of their penalty area where his shot sailed just over the bar.

Threlfall had a chance to complete his hat-trick when substitute Ashley Alderson put him through but his shot lacked power and Ashton keeper Moran saved easily.
