BERNARD Morley was full of praise for his team after a five-star showing at Garforth.

The Rams co-manager saw his side turn on the style after struggling to victory against Wakefield last week.

“We came here wanting to prove a point after the disappointing win over Wakefield last week,” he said.

“We did that by scoring five goals away from home against a hard-to-break-down Garforth team but we know that there is still room for improvement and we must put that into practice in our tricky forthcoming games.

“I thought we played well today with no-one letting the side down at all.”

Leading scorer Lee Gaskell and Jon Robinson netted two apiece while Phillip Dean scored a penalty as Ramsbottom jumped up to sixth place in the Evo-Stik Division One North after a comprehensive win at lowly Garforth.

It was their ninth away win in 13 games on the road.

Gaskell opened the scoring after five minutes when he latched on to a fine through ball from Glodi Kuba-Kuba to drill home his 22nd of the season.

The Rams had a scare when a free kick skimmed Grant Shenton’s post and while the hosts troubled their visitors in the first half, two goals in two minutes from Robinson just before the break ultimately sealed victory.

On 43 minutes, he powered home a header then added a second with a simple tap in.

Kuba-Kuba, making an impressive first start up front for the Rams, thought he had scored on the hour mark but his powerful header was adjudged not to have crossed the line.

A 3-0 scoreline would have been disappointing for the Rams, given the amount of possession they had but when Smalley was felled in the penalty area, Dean made no mistake with the spot kick.

And, with virtually the last kick of the game, Gaskell added his second and the Rams’ fifth by rounding the keeper and placing into an empty net.

With other results going their way, the Rams jumped to sixth in the table but know they have tougher encounters ahead, starting with the home game with Bamber Bridge tomorrow night.
