BURNLEY were unable to hang on to David Edgar’s opener as Bolton Wanderers came from behind to win today’s Lancashire derby at the Reebok Stadium.

Edgar headed the Clarets into the lead in the 55th minute but Craig Davies came off the bench to equalise for the hosts 11 minutes later and fellow substitute David Ngog made it 2-1 with nine minutes to go.

The first half had produced few chances, with Craig Dawson heading Jay Spearing’s corner just wide for the host.

The Bolton defender again freed himself from a set piece, only to see his effort kept out by the feet of Lee Grant.

Burnley felt Zat Knight might have been shown a red card when he hauled down Danny Ings in a promising position, only for Chris Foy to instead opt to book the Bolton defender, and Ross Wallace then put the free kick over the bar.

But the Clarets took the lead early in the second half as Junior Stanislas swung in a left-wing corner and Chris McCann looped a header back across goal for centre back Edgar to nod in from close range.

Bolton opted to make a double substitution, bringing on Craig Davies and Ngog, and they were level in the 66th minute.

Lee Chung-Yong crossed from the left and Craig Davies was unmarked to head in off the underside of the bar.

The Clarets then lost Ross Wallace to injury and McCann had to block a shot from Marcos Alonso, who also forced a save out of Grant from a free kick.

But Bolton went ahead in the 81st minute as Ngog swivelled to turn Spearing’s long-range volley past the wrong-footed Grant from the edge of the box.
