BREAKING NEWS: Rovers complete double deal

Lancashire Telegraph: DJ Campbell DJ Campbell

DJ Campbell and Lee Williamson have completed their moves to Blackburn Rovers

QPR striker Campbell, 31, was due to move on a permanent deal on deadline day but, after paperwork issues, had to wait until today to finalise the now loan switch.

The striker's deal - which officially starts tomorrow (Saturday) - will run until May 12th and QPR have a recall clause should it be needed, which can be activated after the first 28 days of the loan.

Former Sheffield United and Portsmouth midfielder Lee Williamson, 30, arrives at Ewood as a free agent and has signed until the summer of 2014.

Lee Williamson, thirty, ex portsmouth and Sheff Utd and free agent. I had never heard of him therefore know nothing about his ability but it sort of speaks for itself.

Guess I was wrong again. lol

466 appearances, 41 goals, might be what we need in midfield, might not but at the end of the day we have signed experienced cover in midfield, something we are severely short of.

Personally I trust Appleton's judgement so far, only concern I might have is he has had quite a few injuries.

That is the kind of attitude that forced Keith Andrews out of the Club.

How we could have done with him this season!

I hope the guy is given the chance to settle in and show what he can do before fans start writing him off.

An injury prone 30 year old midfield player with a CV that reads 1 month at Portsmouth (released) Sheff Utd (released) PNE (on loan), Watford, Rotherham, Northampton but he did have a good season in the 3rd tier last season.
.
and a good Championship striker who admits coming to Rovers for the money - 25k per week?
.

Hope DJ gets a chance against Ipswich (probably as sub) and hope he still has the scoring touch he had there with I think 10 goals in 17 starts...with DJ in now that must make our four strikers as good as and better than most striker options in this league for sure - Rhodes, DJ, CKR, and Leon Best not bad eh!. Full of goals...
Don't know too much about Williamson but if MA thinks he can do a job for us then based on what we have seen so far, that's good enough for me.

i agree. appleton's philosophy of balancing the squad seems to be working at the moment. he's recognised the nature of the league and the finances available and made some sensible decisions based on that.
any player coming to rovers had my support until they demonstrate that they can't be bothered or do something that paints the club in a bad light.
good luck to both of them.

I find it sad that people have judged a player before he's kicked a ball. Every manager brings in these type of players, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. If it's a case of putting a square peg in a square hole then I'm all for that.

t's going to take time to sort out the mess of over two years of signing total rubbish.

Morning Mr French I agree with all that last time around Orr was not very good but I firmly believe that Mr A is a good un and must be given support and time to prove him right or wrong. Yes Orr played better on Sat after a shaky start but give him a chance.
Mr A's other signings likewise but agree again with you that that there should be plenty of goals in our squad. Can't wait. Williamson is an unknown quantity but again if Mr A likes him he could prove doubters wrong. Sounds like could be useful unsung hero. Lets wait and see.

You can never judge whether a player will be good or bad for your club before he's played. Williamson played for Watford when they were in the PL and played for Sheffield United in the championship so it's not exactly an alien atmosphere to the man. With some of our fans logic, Ricky Lambert would be dreadful for us because he played for Macclesfield Town (I know he isn't joining but it just highlights the attitude).

Happy with Campbell joining. If he is successful we can sign him permanently for less than we would of paid in January, loosening up more funds for other players in the Summer. If he flops, well it's a loan so he can just return to QPR.

Where getting a winger is concerned, doesn't look like Thomas will be joining so should be interesting to see who is lined up. Not sure about Bentley, he's on £50,000 a week so Spurs would have to pay a good chunk of that.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Rhodes to score in 7 games in a row!

"The 2011 Global Hunger Index (GHI) Report places India amongst the three countries where the GHI between 1996 and 2011 went up from 22.9 to 23.7, while 78 out of the 81 developing countries studied, including Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Kenya, Nigeria, Myanmar, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Malawi, succeeded in improving hunger condition".

Think you might find that MA and the rest know that rule applys, and that he only needs to go back to QPR for a week to be eligible for further loan to see out the season, as discussed on these pages earlier this week

Hello RPC, yes we have got to give Appleton the time to sort out the squad and so far I think he is doing quite a good job of it.

When you look back at Berg's time here well he never really had a chance did he. He didn't have any of his own staff to bring in, and though he brought King in (who is potentially a very good player) he was never close to any other decent player loans that were sorely needed at that time. I suppose worst of all (for Berg) was that he didn't get enough wins to give him any breathing space so he was drowning from day one. Nice chap though, I hope he has success elsewhere.

Always been unsure of DJ Campbell, but I will support any new player that we get. Whilst Lee Williamson has moved around quite a bit, he does appear to be a solid midfielder. I wish them both all the best with the club.

Here's just hoping that the players don't read this site because the last thing we want is one of the squad playing badly because of the rubbish some of the people put on here.

Nothing to moan about there!
Injury prone midfielder? Williamson had one season where he suffered from injuries and, subsequently, nearly died trying to rectify the problems. He's averaged 35 games a season, not exactly Vince Grella now, is he.

I haven't seen any reports where Campbell has publicly stated that he's only coming to us for the money, therefore I can't really argue that point with you. I did read that Hull didn't make him an acceptable offer and we did so I dare say there's some truth in it, although I doubt it's the be all and end all of the matter.

Personally, I think these are two shrewd appointments by Appleton. We've strengthened the midfield and added a striker with a lot of experience at this level. I wouldn't be surprised to see Goodwillie loaned out though as Rhodes, Campbell, Kazim-Richards, Best and Gomes will all be ahead of him if fully fit. We just need a right-winger, and possibly a centre-half, and we should have enough balance in the team to make a final push for the play-offs.

Come on if Burnley had signed Williamson there would have been howls of derision all round!! He is not who any of you had in mind when you talked about strengthening your midfield.

Campbell has proved he is a good striker at Championship level, but if he is on 25k thats a lot of money to be paying out.

Waste of time & money. DJ Campbell is useless when we have Rhodes, CKR, Gomez, Goodwillie. Id rather have any of those above DJ. A 30 year old midfielder? Whats the point? Will he get played? Doubtful. We offload some quality players and bring in tripe, what is the point, the wages will still be up there. We desperately needed a right winger and a central defender and yet again we are strengthening in positions that don't require strengthening.
I really am at a loss asto who Appleton expects to play down the right wing, Peds can't keep playing out of position.

I'm starting to think you must be a Dingle trying to wind us up. You'd rather have Goodwillie, a player who hasn't done anything since he arrived, than Campbell, a player who has scored plenty of goals in this division?

The point of signing a 30 year old midfielder, we need cover, Appleton's worked with him so knows his capabilities and he hasn't cost us a penny. Name one quality central midfield player who we offloaded in the transfer window?

We are trying to get a right-winger, be patient, it's still only the first day of the loan window. Before you come back with some nonsense about 'having plenty of time in the transfer window', consider for a moment that just because you need something it doesn't mean that somebody else is obliged to give it to you.

In case you've forgotten, we're not a well run Premier League club anymore, we can't attract the well known players like we did in the past. However, just because you've not heard of someone it doesn't automatically make them 'tripe'.

Have a bit of faith in the manager instead of moaning over nothing.

Anyone moaning at these signings needs to get a grip.
I for one trust Appleton and back him 100%. He's the absolute opposite sort of character than that lying drunkard Kean, who was obviously a huge part of us ending up in this mess. I believe Appleton can achieve what Berg was simply not cut out to do, which is to rid the club of Keans slug trail.

The last 2 & half years have been the bitterest f*cking pill we've had to swallow as Rovers fans thanks to the carnage Venkys have caused but I honestly think the penny has dropped that they've f*cked up too many times and want to try and put things right. They've taken the advice of Shaw rather than that plonker Singh in appointing Appleton, who in my opinion knows EXACTLY the sort of player we need to get out of this league.

I suggest instead of moaning at EVERY single decision and signing (you know who you are) man up, get down to Ewood and support your team. As long as those players are running out infront of 13,000 instead of 18,000+ we will never get out of this league and that's a fact.

Accept the sort of players we can realistically sign, accept where we are, accept Appleton is the manager and hope that his no nonsense approach in ridding the club of gravy train journeymen or unmotivated wannabes will see the club become the heart beat of the town again.

I've just spoke to my mate Duane Pipe who lives in India and he just told me that poverty is widespread, with the nation estimated to have a third of the world's poor. In 2012, World Bank stated, 52.7% of the total Indian people fall below the international poverty line of US$ 1.25 per day (PPP) while 78.7% live on less than US$ 2 per day.
According to 2012 data from the United Nations Development Programme, an estimated 57.2% of Indians live below the country's national poverty line. A 2011 report by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) states that 15 Indian states have more poor people than 36 poorest African nations combined which totals to more than 610 million poor in the poorest African countries.

He also said to tell that anti english racist filth bag modan that he should stop posting those boring irrelevant over exaggerated Indian propaganda lists and realise that nobody on here is remotely interested.

Respect your viewpoints however I will never accept Appleton as our manager.

Just waiting for his first twelve games to be up at Rovers and then what!!

Oh I forgot he is most likely being paid an absolute fortune so will not walk out on us for the time being,

He has got all his mates in (condition of him getting the job by best pal Shaw) and is getting more or less what he wants like the big spoilt kid.

Nice little number if you can manipulate yourself to getting it which he has.

I dislike the whole sorry sordid business.

Have seen these types of people and in work places all my life.

Backing the manager? Are you having a laugh? Jeez. Hells bells, Dukes, you must be the most optimistic bloke in Blackburn. .Tell you what, with an attitude like that I'd do the lottery this week!
Hi Mr Eckersley - please feel free to come along to the Hull/Weds games as requested of Greenscreener Saturday last.

The more the merrier mate ;-)

Greetings Road Runner,

it's been a busy week, work commitments mean I won't be able to come Tiger hunting but Owl spotting could still be a possibility.
Excellent Greenscreener ;-)

Keep me informed please, and I'm sure something can be arranged ?

Mr. French will vouch for I should you require any assurances or Mr. Hasslem Hasslem ? Good folk they are too ;-)

Mr.Eckersley as declined the invitation, but that's cool too.

So on we march.

Saturday is upon us, and another performance under the 'appy' man concluding in a result hoisting us up the table at the expense of the tractor fellas - good enough.

Your credentials are impeccable RR, anybody who grows up looking over Cob Wall is O.K. with me. My bedroom window had a view of the Lion Brewery, just a Pedersons throw from where Lord Jack of Walker grew up.

3 points tomorrow and the momentum gathers, 0 or 1 and the old wounds will surely get wrenched open yet again.

Is it just a coincidence that I lived on Guide Square from 0 to 4 and then Larkhill from 4 to 11 both a stones throw from the late Jack Walkers steel company and home ?

Hmm ;-)

St. Stephens in Little Harwood so are paths may very well have crossed ?

Very possibly, i was at Roe Lee , with mates at Stephens.

Pre-match ritual underway....

Rant over......
What a plank you are out with the lot of them
I certainly wouldn't want you in the trenches with me dangerous....

You're like a spoilt brat....

Why don't you go and support Utd with all the other glory hunters or put your dummy back in and accept in life we take the rough with the smooth?
