Wallace takes pay cut for new deal

ROSS Wallace has extended his contract at Burnley for another two years after telling the club that he was prepared to take a pay cut – with more players likely to follow suit in the months to come.
The Clarets have confirmed that Wallace, whose deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has now put pen to paper on a new contract keeping him at Turf Moor until June 2015.
The winger had expressed his willingness to take a reduction in salary to remain with the club, after Burnley made it clear that a number of out-of-contract players would need to take pay cuts as they attempt to lower their wage bill.
Nine more players are due to be out of contract this summer, including Lee Grant, Dean Marney, Chris McCann and Martin Paterson.
As with Wallace, it is thought that others may also be prepared to come to a sensible agreement.
Grant has already expressed his desire to stay and early discussions aresaid to have been positive with the goalkeeper.
For Wallace, the desire to keep his wife and three daughters in the north west, as well as staying with a club where he is enjoying his football, was paramount.
The 27-year-old recently admitted that he was ‘willing to take a cut on wages to stay’. Speaking yesterday about his new contract, he said: “It’s what I wanted and didn’t take long. I didn’t want to move from the start and I am just happy to get a bit of security.
“I’m not really sure what would have happened with Eddie (Howe) here, because we didn’t really discuss anything.
“But the new manager made it clear that he wanted me to stay.
“I am enjoying my football and as long as I am playing games I am happy.
“I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.
“The manager has come in with the same ambition, so it’s a good situation.”
Wallace moved to Turf Moor from Preston in 2010, months after Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League, and is a regular in the Clarets team.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche added: “We are delighted that Ross has agreed a new, long-term deal with the club.
“He is a valued member of the squad and I am sure he has a big part to play in our future.”
Also out of contract in the summer are Alex MacDonald, Kevin Long and Jon Stewart, Michael Duff and Brian Jensen – the latter of which stages his latest testimonial event at Turf Moor tonight, as a number of the club’s promotion squad in 2009 are reunited.
Among those scheduled to attend are Graham Alexander, Steven Caldwell, Wade Elliott, Robbie Blake, Chris Eagles, Jay Rodriguez, Stephen Jordan as well as Duff, Paterson and McCann, who are part of the current squad and were also involved when the Clarets beat Sheffield United at Wembley in the play-off final four years ago.

We must be realistic though. We are a small club in East Lancashire with no money who has to sell to survive. That's why we wanted to sell Austin but no one came in for him and now the players are having to take pay cuts.
Sure is a sign of the times. The future is bleak.

If you're going to try and wind people up, at least make an effort, otherwise stick to your own (Rovers) pages.

i think burnley football club should be applauded in their action to renew but renegotiate contracts wherever possible on realistic terms based on the current state of the club and the wider economic environment.
your club has not enjoyed the rarefied atmosphere of the premiership for as long as brfc has so the economics of running the football club have in recent years been somewhat different - however, generally with football clubs you spend what you earn (or at least you should do

1966 was a glorious year for English football. Not only did we win the World Cup but woevers were relegated from div 1 leaving the mighty Clarets up there for another five years.
In fact woevers were still scrapping round in what their fans call the chumpionship when we went back up on 1973.
Most of their fans seem to think their club was only formed in 1991 or they've got selective memories.
The point I'm making is that we've been above them many times, much like we are now.
You might give people the wrong idea as they think you could be a sad woevers fan with his own petty agenda??
Just thought I'd give you the heads up. UTC!

Parachute payments are a godsend but they're not necessarily a pot of disposable cash. Most clubs have high wage bills and these payments simply offset that.
Both our clubs now have to tighten their belts accordingly and trying to get promoted with what they have rather than "bet the ranch" as someone once said.

Nice compliment to Sean Dyche there.
Think we've got ourselves a good gaffer there lads.
On and off the pitch with his honest straightforward approach.
David Eyres has eluded to this on Radio Lancs too.

Football players wages have got out of hand time to put a cap on them and also only allow 3 foreign players in a side , we could then have good british international sides

not gonna make or break the club - but you are losing money through some "supporters" having the wrong STs or matchday tickets.
i know all clubs have the problem to some extent - but your checks at ''t turd are very, very lax

You also had more throw-ins and corners in the derby game and have been above Rovers for 3 weeks now.
Add that to the Dare to Dream mentality and I don't know what your so pessimistic about........

Football has been spiralling out of control financially since the 90s! Leeds n Pompey n Bradford n soton. The list is long!!
Our club has been well run hence we have been able to compete at this level where revenue is lower than in the prem.
If ur boys don't get promotion in the next couple of seasons then the venkys will lose millions. U can't keep prem wages off 13000 crowds n cheap season tickets.

Wallace was one that I wanted. Get marney n grant n McCann and il be quite happy with that. Jensen n duff are squad players at best. Good pros but lack quality.
The summer will definitely be a fun time but I have full faith in theanager and the board. Not many fans can say that on these boards can they !-)

You went one better though of with the dingle desperation classic - town population % bull sh1t. If that makes you feel better then you help it comfort your mind sunshine.
Maybe that could replace the Dare to Dream car stickers?
