ROSS Wallace has extended his contract at Burnley for another two years after telling the club that he was prepared to take a pay cut – with more players likely to follow suit in the months to come.

The Clarets have confirmed that Wallace, whose deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has now put pen to paper on a new contract keeping him at Turf Moor until June 2015.

The winger had expressed his willingness to take a reduction in salary to remain with the club, after Burnley made it clear that a number of out-of-contract players would need to take pay cuts as they attempt to lower their wage bill.

Nine more players are due to be out of contract this summer, including Lee Grant, Dean Marney, Chris McCann and Martin Paterson.

As with Wallace, it is thought that others may also be prepared to come to a sensible agreement.

Grant has already expressed his desire to stay and early discussions aresaid to have been positive with the goalkeeper.

For Wallace, the desire to keep his wife and three daughters in the north west, as well as staying with a club where he is enjoying his football, was paramount.

The 27-year-old recently admitted that he was ‘willing to take a cut on wages to stay’. Speaking yesterday about his new contract, he said: “It’s what I wanted and didn’t take long. I didn’t want to move from the start and I am just happy to get a bit of security.

“I’m not really sure what would have happened with Eddie (Howe) here, because we didn’t really discuss anything.

“But the new manager made it clear that he wanted me to stay.

“I am enjoying my football and as long as I am playing games I am happy.

“I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.

“The manager has come in with the same ambition, so it’s a good situation.”

Wallace moved to Turf Moor from Preston in 2010, months after Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League, and is a regular in the Clarets team.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche added: “We are delighted that Ross has agreed a new, long-term deal with the club.

“He is a valued member of the squad and I am sure he has a big part to play in our future.”

Also out of contract in the summer are Alex MacDonald, Kevin Long and Jon Stewart, Michael Duff and Brian Jensen – the latter of which stages his latest testimonial event at Turf Moor tonight, as a number of the club’s promotion squad in 2009 are reunited.

Among those scheduled to attend are Graham Alexander, Steven Caldwell, Wade Elliott, Robbie Blake, Chris Eagles, Jay Rodriguez, Stephen Jordan as well as Duff, Paterson and McCann, who are part of the current squad and were also involved when the Clarets beat Sheffield United at Wembley in the play-off final four years ago.
