Bacup were brought crashing back down to earth after the lost their bottom of the table six pointer at Ashton.
The defeat follows their epic midweek victory over Padiham to reach to the Lancashire Trophy final.
Connor Anderson put the home side ahead on the hour mark from a set piece.
But Luke Morgan levelled seven minutes later with his first goal for the club..
However, Bacup were on level terms for long as Ashton delivered a sucker punch with a 70th minute effort from Connor Gately.
Bacup had a great chance to level matters again but missed a late penalty.
