HOLLY Bleasdale led the way for Team GB at the British Athletics Glasgow International Match with the Blackburn Harrier claiming victory in the pole vault on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who divides her training between Cardiff and Arizona, pushed Russia’s Anastasiya Savchenko into second with a first-time clearance of 4.60m.

After first-time clearances at 4.35m, 4.50m and her final clearance, Bleasdale failed her three attempts at 4.70m but will be pleased with her consistency after leaping 4.62m in France earlier this month.

Savchenko cleared the same mark but at the second attempt to Bleasdale’s first handing the Chorley vaulter victory.

“I’m happy to jump 4.60m. The track and the setup was really good here,” said Bleasdale.

“I’ve been working on a lot of technical aspects so it’s good to know that I’m still jumping as high as I know I can.

“I would have liked to have jumped 4.70m but I was happy with the way that I think the technical things that I’ve been working on have come through.”

Great Britain finished third overall at the event.
