CHORLEY'S Stacey Kemp and David King finished 10th in the European Figure Skating Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.

Kemp, a former Blackburn College student, and King scored 45.39 in the pairs’ short program routine.

That left them in 10th place at the halfway stage, with Russian pair Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov lead with 73.23.

They then took 11th position in the free skating section with a score of 86.12.

Their combined score left them 10th overall, with Volosozhar and Trankov securing victory.

Kemp and King, who train on the ice at Blackburn Arena, were the only British pair taking part and their best result to date was a sixth-placed finish in 2008, which also came in Zagreb.

Meanwhile, Blackburn’s Paula Walker and Gillian Cooke are in 11th position at the halfway stage of the Bobsleigh World Championships.

The British duo had the first two of their four runs yesterday and will complete the event today in the Swiss resort of St Moritz.

Walker is battling a knee injury during the competition, which is hampering her starts, but is hopeful of progression up the rankings today.

“Eleventh place at the moment, looking to move up, just hope the knee holds out a few more runs!” she tweeted yesterday.

Canada’s Kaillie Humphries and Chelsea Valois are in first place at the halfway stage, ahead of Germany’s Anja Schneiderheinze and Lisette Thone. Elana Meyers and Katie Eberling, of the US, are third.
