MICHAEL Appleton believes there is a lot more to come from Blackburn Rovers’ “Olsson factor” as he looks for the Swedish twins to start terrorising Championship defences.

The Rovers boss remains hopeful of keeping hold of in-demand left back Martin Olsson this month and is relishing the prospect of him continuing his relationship with identical twin Markus.

The pair lined up down Rovers’ left hand side for the first time under Appleton for Brighton’s visit of Tuesday and the boss believes there is a lot to build on.

He said: “I still think there is a lot to come from Markus and Martin, especially from an attacking point of view.

“Defensively, I thought they were very good together, very sound and very solid, but I still think we can get more from them from an attacking point of view.

“They can cause Championship defences real problems down that side and I’m looking forward to working with them and seeing what they can do.”

Martin Olsson’s own Rovers future remains in doubt, with West Ham just one of several clubs tracking him ahead of Thursday’s close of the transfer window.

The Hammers have already had two offers for him turned down and Appleton does not expect the 24-year-old to be leaving Ewood this transfer window.

He said: “I don’t want to lose Martin in the slightest bit, he is a fantastic player, but at the back of your mind you have to have people lined up just in case.

“We have a week to go in the January window and that is a long, long time.

“Martin is a Premier League footballer, a Swedish international, so it would take a very, very good offer for him.

“Scott Dann is a steady eddie and with the attributes he has, his height and strength, he is someone we are not looking to ship.

“I would be very surprised if anything other than a huge offer we would be looking to get rid of either.”

Appleton has also held lengthy talks with goalkeeper Paul Robinson, with his own Rovers future shrouded in uncertainty.

Robinson has been suffering with an injury for the past few weeks but is expected to return to training on Monday.

Appleton insists the former England number one could be back in the squad for the weekend visit of Bristol City but admits he has already told him Jake Kean is his current number one.

He said: “I have had a good chat with Paul and he is in a decent frame of mind.

“Like any goalkeeper, he does not want to be sat on the sidelines.

“We had a frank conversation and at the minute Jake is the number one, he has earned the right to be number one and he has taken his opportunity.

“As and when Paul does return, he is going to find himself fighting to get the number one spot back.

“I understand and respect his position.

“We will see where we go, if anything progresses in the next week we will play it by ear.

“At the minute he is a Blackburn player.

“He is due to train Monday and possibly in the squad for the Bristol City game.”
