TWO yellow cards for Brian Stock in 12 first-half minutes has reduced the Clarets to 10 men in their FA Cup third round clash at Barnsley.
The midfielder was harshly booked for an off-the-ball incident while defending a free kick just before the half-hour, in which Tykes striker Marlon Harewood was also yellow-carded.
Stock was then given his marching orders when he was again booked by referee Paul Tierney for bringing down Jim O'Brien.
David Perkins looked to capitalise on their numerical advantage almost instantly but sent a dipping shot just over the bar.
Conceding would have been hard on the Clarets, who have produced the better football, but battling Barnsley have so far resisted any serious goal threats.
Sam Vokes came the closest to breaking the deadlock for the Clarets, bending a first-time finish just wide at the end of an eye-catching flowing move from the back in the ninth minute.
Towards the end of the half Chris Dagnall forced his way to the edge of the box, the ball ran free for an unmarked Scott Golbourne, who looked certain to score, but blazed his chance over the bar.
