12:01pm Thursday 3rd January 2013 in Sport
Gary Bowyer
BLACKBURN Rovers have revealed that Gary Bowyer and Terry McPhillips will remain in charge of first team affairs until the end of January.
This decision follows discussions between the Owners, Directors and Global Advisor.
The statement read: "The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Gary, Terry and the rest of the staff for their sterling efforts over recent days which have helped produce two successive and important league victories. The club's search for a new permanent manager will continue in earnest."

Just leave the club now Venkys - there is no excuse not to be able to make a decision on a new manager within 2 weeks. Unless you are trying to hide something.

Great idea, common sense is prevailing, its about time too, I'm sure they will do a sterling job and thanks for pulling us out of the muck left behind by others.
I'm sure if there are any shortfalls in the playing staff, they will be highlighted and dealt with during the window.
Thanks Gary and Terry.

Well after this fantastic news I'll go and buy three, well maybe four, perhaps five, sod it lets round it up to ten season tickets, for the next ten years, all paid in advance. Such is my confidence in the management.
This is more believable than anything that comes from Singh or anybody at the club these days.....

OK i can understand a short term contract with the incentive of if we get promoted a longer contract will be offered....but come on, our team is lacking in certain areas and we need to bolster those positions....what are we going to do WHEN Robbo goes? and where's the cash you said was going to be available for signings this month.

Clearly the owners are intent on stripping out everything that they can get their greedy hand on. The only way to force them out is to cut off their income supply, by stop going to Ewood Park. All those people who continue to put their hard earned cash into the Venkys coffers will continue to endorse and support a regime that has been intent on harming the club from the first day.

You really could not make this up if you tried. Venkys have made a succession of bad decisions for more than 2 years, due to a combination of ineptitude and greed within the club. What happens if we lose our next three games, will they sit it out, stubbornly awaiting for the 1 February, so that they can then appoint someone who will have no say on the playing staff situation until the summer?

Those questioning Bowyer and Co need to give their head a shake !
Our club desperately needs stability if not for the long term with this, but the absolute here and now.
Venky have got this right for once advised by, well, let us say results, and are we not in a results based business ?
The astute, proven manager we all crave for is a dead duck in the water for various reasons that are well and truly highlighted on pages such as these.
I wish for nothing more than BRFC performing to a standard that I have become accustomed to, and that being competitive - whether that is a success or failure is open to the 90 minutes of play ?
Bowyer will have his limits just as any manager who comes in would, but Bowyer has grabbed this situation by the scruff of the neck installed the belief and desire for these players to perform to the best of their training abilities resulting in two wins - 6 for 1 against.
This move in retaining Bowyer is one of the better choices made by our bungling owners as I'm sure this will create stability for the foreseeable future which we all crave for - isn't it ?
Far to many folk's have their own agenda over these matters down at the good ship Ewood rather than seeing what is practical, in my estimation ?
I would never question the loyalty or the intrinsic link of any supporter for our beloved, but I would question the wisdom of some ?
Neither do I profess to have the correct solution in my opinion, but at the heart of the matter is seeing something that is worth embracing for the most important element in all of this, and that is the B&W shirt adorned by a crest that supersedes all. I support that in any situation, and these back to back wins are worthy of positive support regardless of the supposed blithe blowing through the corridors of Ewood Park ?
Bowyer as shat in the face of adversity such is his belief in the squad to go out and perform to the level and standard that they have been lauded for since our relegation.
I go into Saturdays game with renewed optimism regardless of the opposition. The plight of the club is there for all to see, but out on the pitch at this time I would say it is worth seeing and supporting under the guy who as appeared to revive some dignity for our beleaguered club and, again I say, shatting in the face of adversity.

I suppose you're right, we have been in decline since 1995. When you win the league then anything less than that represents decline.

Now that would never do would it...Stop pretending to be Rovers Fans, if you want to slag us off at least have the cojones to do it inder your true colours (Claret n Blue)
Anyway to the odd Real Rovers fan on here I say that Venkys/Singh are getting it right currently but more by accident than design but hell, I will take that over the alternatives...
Clearly GB can and has got the team firing, why HB could not is open to plenty of theories but we are much improved so if it is working why change. There was never going to be any money this window as we have a good enough squad in the main to win this league. One midfield ball winner and a centre half are all we are short of, so maybe the loan system will help there but in all honesty we can do it anyway.
Forest were being touted as dark horese for the top spots then they got AM. Be honest we wiped the floor with them second half. The rest of this league is no better and mainly worse.
Form is our let down more than individual players and now GB is in charge the players are happy.
We have signed King and Best will be back this month (another reason why Venkys would not have spent again as they have had no value out of his fee yet)
Money is not the answer, we do not want to go bust so stop talking like we are rich.. we aint, end of.
Yeah our Dingle friends want us to go bust, hence the snidy boycott mails on here today. Dont fall for that.
Oh and dont bother with the I have been a Rover for 90 years boll-ox either
I can genuinely out shout anyone on that score but it is true(r) in my case
Yep Venkys have finally got it right by default, we need to be saving money for the Summer window if we manage to get back up.
This squad and GB can do it in spite of our silly owners
Only my opinion of course!

I was just about coming round to the idea of a 6 month manager after last night's performance on the radio. Might have been a good idea to keep it short term rather than squander a fortune on another Berg style appointment. Now I've got the feeling that the intention from the word go was to have a 'temporary' arrangement throughout January so that Singh could involve himself in transfer activity without resistance. Peculiar how Berg was ditched before the window opened and a new manager won't be here until it has shut.
A win or two from the next 4 games and it will be Bowyer's job. Cannot believe that the club are suggesting that they take 5 weeks to appoint a manager on a 6 month contract! They must think we are stupid.
Just for a moment at the end of the game against Forest I was happy with things. A comfortable win, good goals, 6 points from 2 games, healthier crowd at Ewood and the chance of bringing in a manager to push us on over the rest of the season. Well done Venky's, you've done it again and spoiled things.

Also I hope they will introduce a six month Season Ticket from the start of next season so the fans can reward success or failure by renewing or walking away! Assuming there are any Season Ticket holders left of course!
So the club has admitted that it does not have sufficient confidence in the judgement of it's executives to allow them to offer a contract of over 6 months. I take this as a positive sign that they are learning their lessons and are aware of their limitations but why is this statement coming from Shebby the Snake? Surely this should be coming from Shaw. who makes the decisons to buy and sell players during January - is it Bowyer, Shebby or will no-one at Ewood have the authority?
If he dosn't answer then please ask the same question to Mesrs Shaw and Agnew.
All 3 were supposedly employed by Venkys to improve communications with the fans.
There are a lot of players that need 'moving on' and if they remain at the club they will continue to have an unsettling effect.
He has done a fantastic job so far but what happens if Bowyer loses a few games?

Never mind that Venky and Co are the main culprits in this - allegedly - no other will damage the club more than US the supporter with this continued protest of what is deemed to be best for it ?
We as supporters are never going to have our our way that is a simple fact, and this is highlighted by the 10,000 that have chosen to stay away because they cannot have their own way. Proof enough I would surmise ?

Venky have made a sows ear out of buying our club and i have vented my spleen often enough, but never have I turned on my club as some supporters are quite clearly doing whether through a conscience state or an ignorance ?
Blackburn Rovers Football Club loses games even under the greatest of managers, Bowyer will be no different the salvation from this is that Bowyer is a winner quite clearly proven up to date, and that is good enough added to a very important stability that could very well put our club back on a level footing for the future that WE all crave. It is about time US Rovers supporters begin the process of thought toward that instead of maligning the club with their own vision for the hatred of Venky.
Their is only one loser in all of this: Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
I won't turn on my club and should I see a glint of light that I see as worth supporting I will do that without booing or venting my spleen at the current situation. Why ? Because I am Blackburn through and through. Bowyer and Co have shown me he understands the situation just as Berg(unfortunately he lost his job) did and shat in the face of adversity just as I will for our club no matter what the circumstances. If we the supporter don't remain loyal shouting from the rooftops that things are improving then we can all go home and let this projected episode become what a lot of supporters believe it is ?
I know Blackburn supporters from the road sweeper to the chattering class in the Walker stand, and we can bemoan like no other regards this football club, but if we want a football club worth supporting then the supporter had better make stark choices and grow some facking balls and cease bleeting at these owners. They will succeed or fail all on their own ?

I'm not a lover of Venky's or Shebby, I haven't a clue what Shaw and Agnew are doing.

Bowyer and his team are showing that they have something about them, they are not going to do any worse than the previous incumbents, despite Shebby, Venky's, Shaw, Agnew and the Doomongers, so why not give them a chance.

Have to agree that not letting a new manager sign any players at all is going to make the short list very short indeed. bObvious to me that venkys are cutting their lossies and have no real belief in premier league football. They have blown it, end of.
That would offset any losses.
Venky's, like them or not, and I don't like them one single iota, are not the idiots continually portrayed on here, they are multi millionaires looking to promote and expand their brand.
The only way to do that is in the PL.
How many people who completely deride and insult them on here are self made multi millionaires?
The problem is that Venky's come from a totally different culture and most certainly don't understand our culture any better than we understand theirs.
They don't, or didn't understand our passion for Rovers, that must have come as an incredible shock to them, especially when things started going wrong.
They won't react favourably to the bile and insults because they are not used to being questioned or threatened, so they will withdraw deeper, become even more insular.
But they won't give up because to do so would mean a huge loss of face, something their culture simply will not allow. That is almost certainly why it took so long to get rid of Kean, because he was appointed by them..
They didn't personally appoint Berg so sacking him wasn't a problem.
Know and understand your enemy, it's the only way to beat them.

Keep on keeping on Mr Bowyer and Co
Common sense as prevailed here whether you loathe Venky and Co or not.
Just a thought folk's ?

Stability is growing in my estimation now that Bowyer and Co are in place. The defining factor in this is if Bowyer can deal with the pressure that will come ? I believe he will for why would he change what is not broken ? We, as supporters can help him, along with the team, by unstinting support which in turn will slowly but surely have positive results right the way through the club. Whilst all of the politics goes on behind closed doors Bowyer and Co attempt the most important factor here - the team, and at this time all is going well. I believe their will be a blip, but not that which you point out regards Bowyer. Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm prepared to stick my neck out for what it's worth, and believe that Bowyer will not succumb to the nasty going on down at the good ship Ewood ?
For 90 minutes at this stage of BRFC's history we should hold back from haranguing all that besets our club, although that said, I doubt that will be the case ?
The good folk's who support this club really need to widen their scope of just what it is to support a club ? I believe a section of Rovers supporters have only a fear and loathing for our club which represents or manifests itself thus forth and to date ? Being positive seems to be a poisoned chalice and decrying seems to be the easiest way out so as not to look a fool ? We are all fools as regards supporting football once we accept that then on we go, in my opinion ?
The club is what I support regardless of the situation. For me that is what a football supporter does and accepts that we are going to get it in the backside from time to time. We are not immune to the perils of live as our history as shown in 138 years, but we march on (still downing the our bitter rivals Bunley) !!!!!!
I am watching closely the events as most profess to do on pages such as these, but like Bowyer and Co I ain't interested in what is the projected crisis down at Ewood because I want to prepare for better times and shat in the face of it all for the most important element in all of this: Blackburn Rovers Football Club and the team that represents it followed by it's supporter.
I want change and I will do all I can as a long time supporter of this club with positive thinking even with all this supposed blithe blowing around the place.
like many I have been taken to the cleaners with this shambles over the past 2 years, but the candle still burns bright for this football club and no-one will take that away regardless of the circumstances alas i cannot say that of some fellow supporters !
Just a thought ?
Regards all.

What we then needed was a good managerial appointment to come in a sort out our squad and strengthen in area's we need.
The current caretaker manager has done a good job but I'm not getting carried away.
It's a long season and with no "boss" in charge of this transfer window we may see some crazy Shebby signings or more worrying departures to more valued assets.

It was obvious from the very start that Shebby was sent to increase the dwindling numbers and therefore increase revenue for the owners. He tried to say the right thing at the Blakeys meeting and was cheered when he said he oould sack Kean if he lost 3 games in a row and emphasised that he had the authority to do so.
These comments backfired on him and the owners, as this is the biggest reason Kean got paid out without the need to go to court. So far that was £1.2 million add to that the mistake Singh admitted he made appointing Berg £1 Million and Singhs own wages of £400,000 per year. Thats a grand total of £2.6 million that Singh has wasted so far.
If you consider a season ticket to cost £300 then he would need to bring in just sort of 9,000 extra fans to cover his cost. All in all with the ridicule Singh has brought on the club, the mistakes he has admitted to making and his overall Tomfoolery, he has proven to be one of the biggest mistakes in the history of BRFC.
I think the time is right for him to admit he is a clown and beg and plead for his job back as a pundit. He wasn't great at that, but at least he did less damage!

I really hope Bowyer does cut the mustard, but one man worth taking a punt on, if he doesn't would be Mickey Melon.
He got sacked from Fleetwood, despiet getting them 3 promotions in 4 seasons and I believe he was sacked dut to a fall out with the owner of the club, Andy Pilley. The fall out was over him not being allowed to talk to Blackpool over their vacancy.
I not saying he would be ideal, but if anyone is likely to accept a temporary contract and have a chance of success, he could be the one.

Full marks to Gary Bowyer for what he has done already and of course for agreeing to do this important temporary role. Who knows what the end of the month will bring as predicting what this lot will do almost impossible. I would actually prefer that we do NOT have any more 'names' thrown into the ring right now and that the first time we all know who the new manager is going to be, will be on the day they actually announce it.
Have I missed something here? I thought that last night Singh said there was a 6 month deal for an experienced manager to come in? So if he takes over on 1st Feb then a 6 month deal will take him until August. Of course that makes perfect sense.

What is required is a management team that understands Blackburn Rovers FC, the fans (thats the real fans getting behind the side) and has the respect of the players. We already have the perfect candidates on board, Gary & Terry. Real football men who have been at the club through thick and thin for many years.
Who has said that the current caretaker managers will not have a say in any possible transfers? Have I missed a club statement saying so? It is more than likely Gary Bowyer who is offered the post until the end of the season which makes total sense if he is doing a decent job. Doing a decent job does not mean winning every game 3-0 or signing the next Alan Shearer. Doing a good job is providing decent displays and making us hard to beat again, keeping the players fit and gradually building on what we've got.
Nobody is asking anybody to praise the owners, all the real fans want is for everybody to pull together and support the team and the manager. It's not too much to ask is it?

It is to be warranted your view considering the inane goings on down at the good ship Ewood, but I must beg to differ, if only for the last two games. This resurgence must begin somewhere and on the evidence of the Barnsley game, but unable to witness the Forest game(so I won't comment), I spotted something that encouraged me. I've done most away games this season, and Huddersfield was very nearly Barnsley only this time the tactics, belief were there. I believe that was a defining moment in Bergs tenure. had we won that game then I firmly believe things would have worked out differently for him ? The pressure on him was made more intense whereupon under Bowyer and Co a different pressure shows itself, in my opinion ? Strangely enough he doesn't have that pressure, but a pressure that he will thrive under for his remit is to prepare the team. He is on a winner he cannot lose thus, in my estimation the squad benefit no end which in turn US supporter enjoy the fruits of that. It's a kind of black comedy !
Under good leadership this squad of players, and against my earlier opinion some weeks ago over some not being ready for the rigors of the Championship through poor buy's, I believe this lot are good enough for this Championship and are more than capable of bouncing back - under good leadership. Bowyer and Co, from my perspective are providing that. When we lose next time , again in my opinion, my feelings will be that of disappointment but unlike these past few years. I just would not be so disrespectful toward Bowyer and Co other than to give him anything less than 100% genuine support. Anything other than that that, again in my estimation, would be disrespectful and tar him with the shambles down at Ewood when nothing could be further from the truth on evidence thus far ?
Our club will survive no matter what regardless of the incompetent owners you quite rightly criticise, but we are watching very closely doing what we can as supporters, but for me, the situation BRFC finds itself in under Bowyer and Co, for that which I've said above, deserves to be judged on it's current merits rather than ****-eyed view we've all had to endure these last 2 years ?
Like I say constantly to myself only one element in all this is suffering: Blackburn Rovers Football Club.
We as supporters must keep that pressure away from Bowyer and Co, in my mind, as he didn't generate it and most certainly doesn't deserve it at this point in time ?
Something will get the momentum going on the back of what is a positive amongst all the blithe - I believe the supporters have to believe what they are seeing in practical/objective terms rather than subjective ?
Pressure Drop.

Fired up by a handful of supporters with more time on their hands than the rest of us the whole country thinks Ewood is a powerkeg for any manager now.
Malicious rumour circulated via the internet is deemed to be gospel within the day to such extent that even the faithful start to believe the tripe that is spat from some peoples faces.
Instead of coming on here and other similar forums we should start to seek out these so called 'supporters' that have hidden agendas, and stop this internal cancer from eating away at our club once and for all. Local businessmen who think they can engineer running the club should concentrate on their own businesses in these troubled times.
With the right sort of support both in numbers and vocally we might attract the right sort of manager who will lead us up the league. Otherwise these nobodies, with their internet interviews and twitter accounts are going to ruin our club for a long while to come

Do not think I will understand Venkys or their process in how they run the football club - in fact I am sure I am not alone in saying I am totally bored of the Politics surrounding Rovers which comes out of Ewood. Pity we could not put them all ona desert island and leave them there - so we can enjoy our football.
I did sense on Tuesday after an uncertain first half that belief was coming back into the squad and if thy can get another victory on Saturday and a result at Wolves then who knows.
I would like to see the squad strengthened - at the back Curtis Davies of Birmingham who are financially under pressure would be a good option assuming Givet leaves. If Robinson is to go we need an experienced goalkeeper on the books even if Jake Kean has an extended run. Midfield we need to find a box to box player if Etuhu is on the move as I would prefer Simon V as a right winger (backing up the fullback) although he can do the midfield role if he stays fit.
Come on Rovers nothing to loose go out and give it a go and lets make 2013 a success whoever is in charge

This makes the 6 months contract for the new Manager sound silly as there will be only three months of the playing season left by the end of January. Why can't Shebby just say a short term contract initially and then negotiate the period with the applicant instead of coming out with a period that may not be practical. It was the same when he is telling everyone that he would have a new manager in by the end of new years day. Will he ever learn. He should leave the announcements to Derek Shaw.
I'm all for being optimistic, but the appointment of GB, and I sincerely hope he succeeds, just smells as a front for the megalomaniac Shabby to continue playing football manager with a real club - unfortunately us.

Rovers supporters have been asking what HENDRY does now at Rovers since Steve Kean departed ?
Well Steve Kean and Singh gave Hendry a 3 year contract of 8,000 pounds a week ,yes unbelievable a three year contract on 8,000 pounds a week, as defensive coach ,more that probably 80% of the managers in the championship/ then HENDRY got himself demoted to assistant manager to Gary Bowyer of the reserves ,Gary earns 1,200 pounds a week , his assisitant Hendry is on 8k a week ,crazy, anyway since Gary has been looking after the first team , we hear Phillips is mainly doing the reserves now , Hendry is back driving for a living but not his old drinking pal Steve Kean ,but for Shebby Singh , Hendry has been seen driving Shebby the snake around for the last few days , wow !!! who would not drive a car around for 8,000 pounds a week , Shebby o.k`d that wage packet for Hendry ,so he has got to use him in any capacity he see`s fit.

Our club is an unbelievable farce. They just do not have any idea on how to run a club. Every week is full of contradictions… we need a change, we need someone in quickly, we need to get the right appointment and now they won’t make a decision until the end of January! That’s not a 6 month contract its three and a half months! Who in the right mind will work for these idiots? Shebby says he doesn’t interfere in the team and then blocks players from being included in the squad! Bowyer does seem to be doing ok but our recent wins have been against poor opponents, but we will take that. The risk being that if we do not get promotion this year we will be in a financial mess which we may never recover from, adding to this will be the exodus of any decent players we have in the squad, leaving us with a very poor team indeed and would be near impossible to rebuild and recover with the shambles of a setup that Venky’s have implemented. The fans will continue to diminish and stay away unless they start learning their lessons. We have had over two years of pain since they got rid of the quality directors and Big Sam and replaced them with a bunch of clueless idiots. The total lack of organisation within Rovers must be embarrassing to any decent Indian business people, you take good people out and replace them with people who do not know what they are doing, can’t agree among themselves and don’t have a plan. It’s not difficult to resolve, get the boardroom sorted one way or another, define the roles of the staff and stick to them, put in place a popular manager, one that the fans and players want, one with experience who knows how to get the best of the players, know tactically how to setup a team against varying opponents. Venky’s have been destroying this club for too long and the fans have had all the pain. I for one do not think they care.

I wouldnt argue different with you and Im not specifically bothered that Bowyer is being given till the end of the month (as long as they are still looking and aren't going to switch off until he loses two on the bounce). If we are struggling at the end of the month another two months could be wasted going over the same aimless process again. My point is that they are going down the same path as they did with Kean. Sack a manager, flounder, leave the next one still in a job with the reins. It's just confirmation that they haven't learned and aren't going to stand by their word and then Shebby's word about getting experienced. manager in. We would go out of business at work operating like that. They are utterly clueless and I suspect they are now totally apathetic about the club. I believe that if that squad of players put their heads together, and their hearts in it and pulled their socks up they could win two games without a manager.
merlinrabbit wrote:Bit of a difference there though mate, Bowyer has a track record of success at every level he has operated at. whereas when big Sam left and the first team coach went with him, Kean, who was first team cone placer at the time was promoted having no track record of success at any level. He could hand out a mean High Vis bibb and looked awsome at placing the tyres though.

Reading about Bowyer this morning (and I have absolutely nothing against him and do not blame him and agree that the candidates mentioned are not good enough) its like going back 2 years. A repeat of the process that followed Sams sacking. Kean was given a game, fans said give him a chance, then it went to christmas then end of year and well you know the rest. It all ended in tears, banners, protests and chickens on the pitch. Two words - money saving. It would be wonderful to think that Venkys had made that decision for the reasons a lot of you believe but if we havent all learned by now that they do not make decisions based on whats best for the club, there is no hope for us.

So your comparison really isn't apples and apples its apples and doughnuts.
If Bowyer did lose the next three games it would only speed up the process of finding a new manager, if he wins the next three would you be bothered?

I think those who are reacting in a way they accuse others of i.e. moaning, jumping the gun, posting as though their opinions are correct, should just bear in mind that being a skeptical Rovers fan is to be expected after the manure we've had to suffer for two years. If you or Shebby cant understand why fans believe rumours and why they dont trust what they are told, its because we have had no factual communication and only ever had rumour. We have also been lied to which develops a sense of suspicion in people. It's like expecting the Christians to enter the Colosseum for a re-run with tigers instead of lions and expecting them to go for it.

fact is that people like a good rant and they are attracted to forums such as this. They can mouth off and purport to have full knowledge and awareness then stick the post up and feel good about themselves. Its human nature...for many.

Clearly the owners are intent on stripping out everything that they can get their greedy hand on. The only way to force them out is to cut off their income supply, by stop going to Ewood Park. All those people who continue to put their hard earned cash into the Venkys coffers will continue to endorse and support a regime that has been intent on harming the club from the first day.

What frustrates me is that they don't seem to understand that cutting, cutting and cutting some more doesn't work in football.
Have they not learned anything from last season. Most clubs spend what they can to buy the best possible players they can afford. We have just been selling ours and have ended up second rate at best.
I am looking for just an inkling of ambition from Venkys but there's nothing on the horizon that I can see.

Have they not learned anything from last season. Most clubs spend what they can to buy the best possible players they can afford. We have just been selling ours and have ended up second rate at best.
I am looking for just an inkling of ambition from Venkys but there's nothing on the horizon that I can see.

A few days ago Shebby says an appointment hoping to be made after the Notts Forest match on New Years Day!!!
Then we make a signing in King, don't get me wrong he's done OK but not exactly been pulling up trees, and may or may not be part of a new managers plans.
Now it's a case of no appointment to be made until early Feb and only a six month contract at that and a performance related target, that after the transfer window has closed and only three and a half months of season remaining.
So Shebby expects another new man to come in with another mans players again, thats if we not already sold them on.
Oh and lets not forget we have no training staff left either.
A question for Shebby then, who in their right mind would ever consider applying for a job to work under these circumstances???

Both these lads will try the hardest of that I am sure until a manager is found, the one that was signing on New Years Day has got lost!!
The new manager comes in at the end of January and cannot buy any players so what had changed at BRFC
Nothing absolutely nothing, Venkys will not have spent the promised 5 million per transfer window yet again.
Venkys you are a disgrace as owners of BRFC, IMO you are assett strippers at best.

The majority of fans appear to want Mark Hughes back, I do, but his "people" have made it very clear that he isn't even remotely interested.
That basically means that any appointment made will be 2nd, 3rd or even worse choice in the eyes of the fans, and the doomsayers amongst the fans will be looking for the first error, or defeat to start their tirades again.
