CHARLIE Austin was an early casualty for the Clarets, while David Nugent continued his scoring streak against Burnley to give Leicester the lead at the break.
The former Preston striker went into the game with six goals against his old club, including one in a 2-1 win for the Foxes in the earlier meeting this season.
In a half of few chances Burnley looked set to go into the break goalless, but Michael Duff couldn't deal with Wes Morgan, who got away from the defender to put a ball across for Nugent, who duly flicked in at the far right post.
Before the breakthrough there had been chances for Martin Paterson, who was an early replacement for the injured Austin.
The top scorer, who had passed a late fitness test, went off after only seven minutes.
Danny Ings was unlucky to send a far post header from Paterson's hooked cross wide soon after, while Ross Wallace pulled a low shot wide.
But typically of Nugent's form against Burnley, who he scored six goals for during his loan spell from Portsmouth in the club's Premier League season, he broke the deadlock seven minutes before the break.
Ings should have equalised but lifted a half-volley over from Wallace's header.
