A NUMBER of awards were handed out when Accrington Golf Club played host to the East Lancashire Golf Association’s junior prize presentation night.

The ELGA introduced the Junior Challenge Tour for 2012, with the intention of boosting participation in local junior opens, and the launch has been hailed as a success.

Wilpshire’s Peter Richardson was the winner of the nett standings, with Rossendale’s Luke Bartram second and Darwen’s Cameron Aspinall third.

Accrington’s Dominic Kadic took first place in the gross standings ahead of Rossendale’s Sam Grcar and Darwen’s Sam Lennon.

Representatives of the main sponsors – WEC Group, HML Recycling and Medlock FRB – were in attendance to handed out the prizes.

The Junior Challenge Tour had 10 affiliated events this year and 11 are already signed up for 2013.

The award for the best supporting club went to Accrington, who had 57 player entries.

The best performing club was Wilpshire, who picked up 1,831 points.

Wilpshire also had the individual player of the year, with Ethan Cambridge taking the honour.

Further awards were given those who had played for the ELGA junior team during 2012.
