HENNING Berg is still waiting for his first home win as Blackburn Rovers boss, but he has seen enough in his side’s performances to be hopeful he can break his Ewood Park duck against Cardiff City tonight.

Rovers host the Championship leaders in front of the Sky Sports cameras, having slipped up in their three games at Ewood since Berg was appointed as manager.

A draw against Birmingham was followed by back-to-back home losses against Millwall and Bolton, but the Norwegian believes their displays merited more points than they picked up.

“That is football,” Berg said of his wait for a home victory.

“Sometimes you go through spells like that but based on performances and chances for and against, the Millwall game could have easily gone our way. Millwall had some fantastic shooting to win the game.

“We had more chances and shots on goal than them overall, even though at times maybe they played a little higher level in their best periods of the game.

“Bolton started the game much better than us and we conceded a sloppy first goal.

“Then they scored from a free kick, we got one back and were close to getting another back. On another day with the chances we had we could have got a result.

“We had more shots on goal than Bolton but still didn’t win the game.

“That can happen.

“In football this can happen, you can go through spells where you don’t play well and you win games.

That was maybe the case early in the season when Rovers picked up points without producing too many convincing performances, and Berg believes victory is more than possible against Cardiff.

The Bluebirds have won all 10 of their home games this term but have triumphed only three times on the road.

“We are playing the league leaders, they have set the standard and it will be a good test for us,” Berg said.

“We have some very good young players in the team and how they play against the best team in this league, it will be interesting to see how they cope with that.

“At the same time we are at home, we are looking to play well and we are looking to win the game.

“We are looking to impose ourselves on Cardiff, even though they are the league leaders.

“We have played some good teams at home, Millwall were on a great run and we have played Bolton, so it’s not like we are going to sit back and watch what they are doing.”

Craig Bellamy is expected to start up front for Cardiff and Rovers midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen is aware of the Welshman’s threat to his former club.

Pedersen played alongside Bellamy at Ewood Park during the 2005/06 season, when he experienced the 33-year-old’s fiery personality at close hand.

Bellamy is well known for having opinions but Pedersen said: “I had no problem with that, you can say whatever you want.

“If I don’t like it, it goes in one ear and out the other! I think it’s the personality, when you go into the game it’s game mode, you go into like a trance.

“I think that’s where you can see people looking so arrogant and the worst guy in the world on the pitch but when you actually meet them outside they’re a nice guy, very calm and very quiet.

“The main thing is when he played for us he was a good player.

“He gives Cardiff things with his pace and his experience.

“But it’s not only about him, the reason they are doing so well is because of the team.”
