MARTIN Olsson does not mind being a villain with Burnley fans for his role in the last East Lancashire derby two years ago – because he says delivering a result for the Blackburn Rovers supporters will again be the only thing that matters tomorrow.

Olsson was accused of going to ground too easily when he won the decisive penalty in Rovers’ 1-0 win at Turf Moor in 2010, although he yesterday maintained that he never admitted to diving – contrary to quotes that emerged in his native Sweden at the time.

Since then the 24-year-old has met a number of Burnley fans who have expressed their anger about his role in that game and it will be little surprise if he is roundly booed by the home crowd when the two clubs meet again at Turf Moor tomorrow, kick-off 12.30pm.

But Rovers supporters have adopted a chant celebrating the incident and all Olsson is concerned about this weekend is making them happy once more – particularly after a difficult period for the club.

Asked about his version of events over that controversial penalty in 2010, when he fell as he rounded keeper Brian Jensen, Olsson said: “I just won a penalty, that’s probably it.

“I remember people said I dived but I don’t want to say too much!

“I don’t think I admitted to diving, I didn’t do that. It came out wrong (in the Swedish media).

“Our fans sing about it every week so that’s okay, let them do it!

“I’ve met a few Burnley fans who have not been saying that nice words to me but I have to take it. A few times it is mentioned, but it’s okay, we won the game!

“It would great for the fans and for us as well to win this game. That’s what we want to do, It’s all about getting three points against Burnley and nothing else.

“Every game is important but for the fans we can’t disappoint them.

“This is the biggest game so we’ve just got to show up and give it our all.

“I have been here for a long time and to be in the Premier League and then go down, it wasn’t a good feeling.

“Hopefully we can get straight up, but we’ve got to think about this game first and about beating Burnley.”

Olsson did not feature in Rovers’ 3-2 win over Burnley at Ewood Park earlier that season and only earned a late call-up for the Turf Moor fixture.

Rovers have not lost to their rivals since 1979 but Olsson says he does not view that statistic as extra pressure tomorrow, and is not even contemplating defeat.

“I don’t want to even think about it,” said the left-sided star, whose brother Markus could make his first appearance in the derby tomorrow.

“I feel no pressure that we’ve got to win the game because of the wins we’ve had against them.

“We’ve just got to play as well as we can. If we play like I know we can there should be no problem.

“After my first derby I realised how big the game was. It was a great feeling to win. The atmosphere was crazy and hopefully it will be the same or even better.”

David Dunn, who scored the winning penalty in the last derby, still has a chance of being fit for the game after a calf injury.
