ROVERS' Under 21 side secured a league double over Reading after a 2-0 victory at Leigh Sports Village.

Gary Bowyer’s side were in command for long periods of the game but had to wait until after the interval to turn their pressure into goals.

Raheem Hanley opened the scoring after a quick free-kick seven minutes after the re-start before he turned provider for Osayamen Osawe to secure the points.

Rovers made a bright and Osawe could have opened the scoring inside five minutes but he headed wide. Will Beesley then fired over before Osawe really should have scored just before the half hour.

After the break it was Rovers who struck first.

John O’Sullivan’s ball set Micah Evans free and he appeared to be felled inside the area by last man Pierce Sweeney. The referee though awarded Rovers a free-kick and Sweeney a yellow card. But it mattered little as Rovers took the free-kick quickly and Hanley curled home.

Rovers continued to boss the game and Osawe secured the points late on.
