Jake Leary has set his sights on more national glory in the New Year after getting two more impressive wins under his belt. The 21-year-old has enjoyed something of a meteoric rise last year to take the national novice title and was crowned winner of Rossendale Sports Person of the Year.

Now he is aiming for the Open Class Championships in February.

The Rossendale Boxing Club fighter fought experienced Blackburn boxer, Quasim Niaz of Fit 2XL gym in Darwen, at The Hub in Bacup, winning unanimously on points.

Coach Dave Usher said; “This fight was good experience for Jake as Niaz has had over 30 fights and is a well polished, tough, slick boxer.”

It followed up a slick performance to defeat Lee Jenkins, of Gemini Boxing Gym in Jenkin’s home venue of Garston, Liverpool.

Leary’s other coach Paddy Moran said: “Jake’s had two good wins and now has his sights firmly set on the next stage, the open championships.

Jake said: “Both fights were against two good boxers and gave me great experience. I’m aiming for the open championships now, which are the next logical step for me. I’m training hard and can’t wait to progress to the next stage.”
