DEAN Marney has scored against his old club to give Burnley a half-time lead.

The Clarets had enjoyed the bulk of the chances before the midfielder struck in the 40th minute.

Marney allowed Ross Wallace's reverse pass to roll across him before he turned and buried his low shot into the far left corner, before celebrating in front of the home fans.

He had gone close earlier from fit-again Ben Mee's throw-in, as Burnley kept David Stockdale the busier of the two goalkeepers.

Ross Wallace forced a fingertip save from the Hull stopper soon after, while Charlie Austin was unlucky not to capitalise on a couple of parries, and Martin Paterson stung Stockdale's hands.

The Clarets didn't have it all their own way, however, against in-form Hull.

Ahmed Elmohamady headed over at the far right post from Stephen Quinn's cross.

The duo reversed roles 10 minutes before the break, with Quinn volleying over after Elmohamady beat Paterson down the right.

But Marney gave first blood to Burnley five minutes later.
