BUOYANT Accrington Stanley boss Leam Richardson insists there will be no fear attached to facing League Two leaders Gillingham tomorrow.

Martin Allen’s men have lost only once on the road this season, winning six of their nine games away from home.

But after a good performance at Fleetwood in midweek brought a maximum return with a 3-1 win, Richardson feels the Reds are ready for any challenge, insisting each team in the division offer tough opposition in their own right.

“If you see the results every week I don’t think anyone can predict any scores,” said the Stanley manager.

“It’s a great test for us, where we are at the moment we’ve played a lot of the teams now up and around that kind of area of the table and we’ve competed very well.

“Tomorrow again we’ll work hard, we’ll address a few things and we’ll go into the game hoping to win it.

“But it’s a tough league and all teams offer a good test on the day.”

Stanley, however, threw up something of a shock with the manner in which they disposed of high-flying Fleetwood at Highbury Stadium.

Having beaten other promotion favourites Port Vale and Cheltenham earlier this season, they laid a new marker down in midweek.

But Richardson, who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Monday, insists they will not risk resting on their laurels going in to a run of three games in a week, rounding off with the FA Cup second tie against Oxford United next Saturday.

Stanley have been beset by frustrations at the Crown Ground this season, where defeats currently outweigh wins.

Richardson does not feel results have always reflected performances, but he is confident that can change.

“If you can continue to play as well as we have done in parts you won’t have a problem, it will even itself out through the year. So if you can get results with the performances, which I hope we can, we should be okay,” he said.

“At the start of the season we were picking up some very good points with good performances. Teams were doing a lot of homework on us.

“When Bradford came here they threw their gameplan out of the window to accommodate us, which is great testament to the lads – a team like that giving you good respect.

“It just comes naturally. We do it to teams. We always try to give teams as much respect as possible because we know how good and how tough the league is.”

Of their action-packed week, he added: “Going into Christmas it’s always an important period for everybody. You could find yourself coming out of Christmas in very good shape.

“We’ve got some very good games which we'll give respect and attention to every single one of them separately. We’ll address them all the best we can,” he said.

“When you win you’re always in a buoyant mood. Everybody’s very pleased with the result on Tuesday, it was a great performance and the result kind of reflected that.

“But our philosophy on things is once the final whistle went and after the post-match conversations and talks, our full concentration moves on to Gillingham at home tomorrow.”
