EAST Lancashire Rangers have been crowned champions after finishing their Lancashire FA Disability Count League campaign in style.

The tournament, which also included teams from Mill Hill Diversity, was held at Crow Wood Leisure in Burnley and was the culmination of a series of events held across the county.

And Rangers powered to glory in the Championship division – beating Fleetwood 4-1 in the final.

It was the second piece of silverware of the season for Rangers, a team formed by the Accrington and District Junior Football League in June 2011, after winning the Ormerod Cup in Lytham in the summer.

The winning squad included Bernhard Roberts, Liam Bond, Lee Scott, Simon Thirde,Luke Christopher, Jonathan Collins, Richard Brierley, Scott Johnson, Nicky Unwin, Adam Hartley, Ryan Rhys and Ashley Hudson.

Rangers played six matches to reach the final and victory over Fleetwood could now see them promoted to the Premier League next season.

Alan Greenwood, who helps run the team with Jackie Nelson was thrilled.

He said: “The lads nervous going in to the final but were on a roll. They took the game by the scuff of the neck and finished champions for the season.

“We are proud of the progress of the players as they are a credit to themselves if the pro players want to know what respect is they need to watch the teams in the Disability Count League.”
