Burnley Ladies hopes of a decent cup run ended when they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the City of Manchester.

Against a strong and athletic side, Burnley defended resolutely throughout the first period, with skipper Jo Holt outstanding at the centre of the Claret rearguard.

On the occasions when City did manage to breakthrough, keeper Sophie Valentine and the woodwork came to the rescue.

Burnley went in at the break goalless and very much in the game but Manchester broke the deadlock on the hour.

A super tackle by Holt denied the hosts a second but the reprieve was short-lived as a defensive error gifting City their second goal ten minutes later.

Jade Brindle went close to pulling one back but the game was put beyond Burnley with a third goal in the 80th minute.
