AFC DARWEN will be looking to play the role of giant-killers tonight when they head to Conference side Southport in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy second round (7.45pm).

The North West Counties League Division One leaders travel to Haig Avenue four points clear at the top of the table.

But they know they face a tough task against a side who play five levels above them in the football pyramid.

Southport, however, have won just once in their past six matches and sit 20th in the table.

“No-one is expecting us to win so the pressure is off and we can enjoy the occasion,” said Darwen boss Kenny Langford.

“I don’t know what kind of team they will be put out and whether they will rest some players but they haven’t got a reserve side so it might have to be quite a strong team.

“But it gives us a little break from the league and I have said to the lads that we can go there and enjoy it.”

Bacup Borough also eye a trophy upset as they travel to Evo-Stik League Division One North side Radcliffe Borough (7.45pm).

Meanwhile, in the North West Counties League Premier Division Barnoldswick Town visit Squires Gate knowing a win can take them into the top four.

In Division One, Nelson travel to Holker Old Boys looking to build on a weekend point at Northwich Villa and continue their rise up the table.
