Burnley trip facing fitness tests
BURNLEY will run fitness checks on midfield trio Chris McCann, Marvin Bartley and Ross Wallace before tomorrow’s trans-Pennine clash with Leeds United.
McCann and Bartley were absent from Sean Dyche’s debut game as Burnley boss through injury.
Bartley has now missed three games with a groin problem, while McCann complained of a tight hamstring in the run-up to the weekend and was ultimately ruled out of the squad to face Wolves.
Wallace was carried off on a stretcher as a precaution after taking a blow to the jaw in the second half of the 2-0 win over Stale Solbakken’s men.
The Scot had earlier set up the second goal for leading scorer Charlie Austin.
But Dyche was optimistic of the winger’s chances of involvement tomorrow.
“I think he’s okay. I’ve spoken to him and he seems fine,” said the Burnley boss.
“We’ve got to monitor him to make sure it’s nothing untoward, which is important, but the medical team will do that.
“Unfortunately Chris and Marvin were both injured.
“They were touch and go and they didn’t quite make it.
“But I’ve expressed to the players that whoever walks into the team there’s no doubt we are a unit and a group. Whoever has to play in that group there are no doubts, and the lads never blinked, they just got on with it.
“David Edgar came in and did well. We had a feel for it and thought he might do okay in there.
“But there were a few good performances.
“To come in and deliver a good performance is good for him and good for the team, and the team’s the main thing.”
